  1. We just recently moved up north, and the dogs are now outside dogs (but they come in at night to a heated garage) I Know they need to eat a lot more to keep the calories on so they can stay warm! They are getting double the amount of food they were getting when they were inside dogs. and they are LOVING being outside! I've heard about feeding them some kind of gruel? Does anyone know what you make it out of ? What do you feed your mostly outside huskies?

Thanks for all the photos everyone! it's been very helpful!
  3. Hey guys, So we are moving back to canada, Freaking excited to have a winter again where we can do wintery things with the pups. Thing is, Our new house's back yard isn't fenced (fencing it isn't an option), but we have about a 30' X 30' area that i'd like to put a kennel. Has anyone had success, or not success using Hex wire, or Hog wire (the square stuff)? The idea is to make it 6-8 feet High, and we will be putting a roof on it (so that they can't climb out), and will be putting landscape tiles around the edges OR i'll be buying some rubber horse stall mats to put down so they can't dig out... What are your thoughts? trying to keep it as afordable as possible, chain link super expensive, BUT we can go that route if the other wire fencing would be no good. Im concerned about them maybe just chewing threw the wire? What do your kennels look like? what materials do you use? SPAM ME YOUR PICTURES!!!!
  4. So my 1 year old male, likes to pee on my 2 year old female every time she takes a poop... today he peed right on her face.... yuck. I don't even know where to begin with this. I've tried to let her out potty first, and then let him out...but it's like every time I'm not watching his sneaky little butt he pees on her. I've tried verbally reprimanding him, and he just looks at me with his "what you gonna do about it" look, and continues on his way. Here is a picture of my oh so innocent little guy, don't let his cute looks fool you... he's 100% trouble.
  5. Okay So, My lovely Sora is at it again... She is bored with her food. With so many different foods on the market, I really not sure where to start. (preferably not a food that is TOO expensive, because I have 2 puppy mouths to feed) Here are the foods we've tried in the last 3 years, that she will not touch again Taste of the Wild (all flavors) Diamond dog food Blue Buffalo (gives her upset stomach) Purina One (she picks out the dark chunks and leaves the rest) Purina ProPlan Iams (won't touch it at all) 4Health Nutro Ultra Nutro Natural Choice Science Diet Nature's Recipe Wellness I don't want to feed her a raw diet(I have no time for that) and I've tried mixing wet food in with her dry food, she turns her nose up to that as well after a couple days of it. Anyone have a brand of food they like besides the ones listed above that they have had success with their fussy eater?
  6. oh wow just now seeing this, Thanks everyone <3 you're all great!
  7. They look like shiba Inu mixes to me Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Sora talks back to me all the time, especially when I tell her to stop stalking my daughters high chair for food. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. I just realized I don't think I ever formally introduced our newest addition to the family! This is "Avery's Red Whiskey" aka Whiskey. He's my 'special child', there are a lot of 'shake your head at him' moments. haha but we love him, he is a very sweet boy. And Sora loves having a buddy to run around and play with! The second last pic is sora and my daughter snuggling in the back of the car on a long ride home from North Carolina. was just too cute to not put in here too Sora jumped over the back seat to snuggle with her because whiskey was hogging the back of the suv and wouldn't let her lie down anywhere.
  10. hahaha I love that song! I think it's been 3 or 4 days of benedryl right now, and He's been quiet so far... granted he's only been in bed 2 hours. I will definitely give him some if he doesn't stay quiet tonight, and see how he is doing tomorrow too. He's just been so happy and mellow today =D
  11. Ah beautiful red!!! And i love that link is playing fetch! My sora plays fetch too but I can't get whiskey to chase anything if his life depended on it!!
  12. UPDATE!!! =D Just wanted to give y'all a status report on my little red monster! He is doing WAY better. Today was probably the best day we've had so far. He was calm and relaxed almost the entire day, He even spent an hour outside by himself without waking the whole neighborhood and just contently ran around and hung out on the back deck! I've only given him benedryl at night to help everyone sleep and him relax in his crate in the evening and it has done wonders. Trying it without any benedryl tonight to see how he does! We're coming along with the Quiet command. and he even snuggled up and took a nap with me while sora was outside! This is such a huge improvement. Considering Sora is in heat right now so that is putting a lot of stress on him as well. I swear my bitch has the longest heat cycle in the world...ugh. But I believe his confidence is building a little bit while he's been forced to be on his own without her around all the time, and I'm so proud of him!
  13. yeah that's right we've registered 2 dogs, and I think you can even go online with the # on the registration paper and do it all online if you wanted to too. and keep the paper signed by the breeder for your records as well. The litter is already registered by the breeder you just have to name the dog and yes its like a transfer of ownership sort of!
  14. Ignore everyone who says they have their dog potty trained in 2 weeks... 1. Huskies are normally quiet and are notorious for not telling their owners when they have to go, so unless you are extremely attentive you might miss her ques. 2. BOTH of my huskies were not even close to fully house broken until they were over 7 months old...they are stubborn, and have accidents. they take time and patience, and most of the people I know with them have had a hard time with house breaking. My male husky still won't poop on a leash, so whenever we travel somewhere with him he always has accidents in other peoples houses...it drives me bonkers. He'll hold his poop for an entire 3-4 hour walk and then go on the floor as soon as he comes inside. and he's 9 months old now. huskies are naturally anxious dogs, so she may be under some stress with all the kids running around, and the fighting. but they do make amazing family dogs. and I agree with a lot of what others have said, if shes going for walks, and you're running out her excess energy she should be just fine being confined to the kitchen. The dog park is your best friend for tiring a husky out I know around here the dog parks have a big playground for the kids, so it ends up being a nice family outing. thats a hard decision you are having there, and only you can be the best judge of what you think is best for the dog and your family. You can also look into getting an outside kennel. they start around 150$ and go up from there depending on size. Sometimes you can find good deals on them online too. You're not a bad owner, you're doing a great job with the pup so far. Keep up the good work. and If you do decide to rehome make sure you screen potential new owners, ask them a TON of questions about the breed and really make sure they know what they are getting into. My neighbor down the road has a husky she hates her guts because she got the dog because it "looked pretty" and she is always running loose around the neighborhood.
