  1. Haha so sorry I have only just seen this! Thank you everyone. I have been spoilt by Phil, and also Thor gave me a special birthday present. He got off his lead on the way back from our walk and ran home and waited by the gate for me 😄 I was very surprised and proud! Was only luck though as we had just crossed the main road and if the clip would have broken then he would have ran across the road!
  2. OMG! I am currently sat in work crying!!!! I will show Phil when he gets home
  3. That it a very nice offer Dave I really like the pictures of Cassie but they really don't need any editing. Hopefully the pictures I would like editing are below.... If not I give up! I would like the picture of all of us editing, but I don't really have any suggestions, just do what you want The one of Thor please can you remove his lead and harness? I am going to get a few put onto canvas or just printed but I like the close ups of Thor and they don't have anything that needs changing. Unless you can make him look less goofy/dopey . His tongue sticking out and eyes half closed do not help, but he did have a very long week and needed some beauty sleep.
  4. Hehe they are cute. I like the one of Cassie 😄 thank you so much! It's nice to have some decent photos that we can put onto canvas.
  5. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that organised husky camp. We had lots of fun and it was lovely to meet you all. Thor and Cassie are fast asleep. We could do with a sleep as well to be honest! I hope you all managed to avoid the hole that Thor dug last night!! 😄 We will definitely be joining you for the next camp!
  6. Me too. I like rabbits and this one was so tiny! We just hope it found somewhere nice to live in the park and wasn't in shock for too long after he dropped it off.
  7. Only two weeks to go now 😄 I can't wait for the time off work! Almost time to start thinking about getting things ready and buying a few things!
  8. So... A few weeks ago we bought a shed for our garden. We bought our house a year ago and have now gathered enough gardening equipment to fill a small shed. We ended up buying an octagonal summer house type shed and put it onto patio slabs in the corner of the garden. Thor has been really good and just let the shed be..... Until a baby rabbit decided it was going to live under it! We don't know how the baby rabbit got into our garden but it didn't look like it was going to leave - plenty of grass and a nice hiding place. So once Thor realised it was there be started trying to dig under the shed and pulling at some of the wooden panels. He also got very focused on the rabbit and ran straight to the shed when we let him out. Which meant he wasn't going to the toilet.... He just got so hyped up and focused it was frustrating because he wouldn't listen. My boyfriend managed to catch the baby rabbit yesterday and took it to the nearby park where many rabbits live. He is so cute because he didn't want to kill it or let the dog eat it. If we would have left it where it was Thor would have destroyed the shed just to kill the rabbit. He is now starting to realise it has gone and is playing in the garden properly again 😄
  9. We don't have leash laws in the UK. There are many signs that say dogs should be kept on leads and under control but we are the strange ones for walking Thor on the lead. Most people don't understand why we don't allow Thor off the lead and think we are stupid for saying the majority of Husky's can never be trusted off lead. It's not that Thor is very aggressive it's the fact that he acts in a way that makes other dogs aggressive towards him. I think part of that behaviour is because he is intact and trying to prove himself as a dominant male. The setting and jumping up at dogs is the problem but we seem to be getting through this. We are managing to get him to walk past and stop lying down. The next step is to get him to socialise in a productive way. He is good with dogs after the initial setting and it is only a small percentage that doesn't like the way he approaches. Most dogs he will play nicely with so we don't want to stop socialising him all together. The advice so far is really helping and we do feel that we are getting somewhere. So thank you all very much 😃
  10. Today I tried him on his normal collar again until we have a chance to buy something else. He remembers how to heal and walk by my side from when he did it as a pup. But when we bought our walking belt we decided to embrace husky pulling and give up.... I'm glad he remembers and walks so well by my side. The only problem is when I stop him from setting other dogs he is growling more at them and it's difficult to brake his concentration. I'm going to try taking his favourite toy tomorrow (a quacking duck teddy) to try and get his attention. It's difficult though because there are so many dogs in the park off the lead. I think is going to be difficult when other dogs come running over to us. Nobody seems to put leads on or shout their dogs back.
  11. That sounds very familiar. He actually is dominant. He always tries to figure out what the other dog is going to do first. He's not aggressive but if the other dog is another dominant dog it usually ends in growling and Thor being bitten. He never acts aggressive first for some reason. We currently use a walking belt, police lead and a harness. Thanks for your advice. I am going to try a few things as you have both suggested including treats for good behaviour, a half check, no fun time (meeting other dogs on walks) I think it is going to end in a bad way if he continues and no sniffing until the end of the walk. I will let you know how it goes once I have bought a half check collar. 😃 I'm sure I will be back to ask more questions soon. One of my qualities is stubbornness 😛 and determination...... I was determined to get a husky, then to crate train, to raw feed, to teach tricks, to book husky camp ahhhh the boyfriend doesn't know what he's got himself into!!! And I would love another dog in the future. Let's get us training Thor properly first!
  12. Yes structured walks are exactly what we need! Hi, Thank you for replying. When I try to drag him he does put up a bit of a fight and tries to pull back and also towards the other dog. I just end up feeling like an idiot trying to drag Thor along the floor. We used to use a head collar when he was 2 months until he was 6 or 7 months. He still did the setting back then. It's something I know we have ignored for far too long and we definitely need to stop. We ignored it because we didn't want to stop him from socialising with other dogs and stop him from being a normal dog... But it's just too annoying now. I think I will try treats again. As if that doesn't work use a head collar. We used to take treats on walks but he lost interest after he had learnt what we were trying to teach him.
  13. Thanks for the advice on here. We have managed to crate train Thor with minimal noise so that the neighbours didnt get annoyed with us 😄 (we live in a semi-dettached house next to people that hate dogs!) We started by putting Thor in his crate to eat and let him go into the garden afterwards. Then we started putting him in there for an hour a day after his afternoon walk. While we had showers etc. Once he was happy and understood not to make noise we started to leave him a bit longer. We then put him in the crate while we were at work each day for two weeks. My boyfriend works nights every other week and didn't hear a thing during the day and he is a light sleeper! We then started putting him in the crate at night as well. And there wasn't any noise. We wanted him in his crate because we have an older dog, Cassie our Samoyed, as well and we want to separate them a bit because she's getting too old to be jumped all over and slept on by a dog that is now bigger and heavier than her. So now we ask him to go in his crate and tell him we are going to work, or to bed and there is no problem. We always let him go straight outside when he is let out of his crate, even if it's only been 10 mins just so he goes straight to the door. And uses his burst of energy in the garden instead of around the house!
  14. I am looking for advice on how to get our one year old husky (Thor) to stop "setting" other dogs. When we are walking and we see another dog he watches them until they get closer. Then lies down and won't move. I try to get him to get back up and say "walk on" and "leave it" but it's not working. I also try pulling him but he is a dead weight on the lead. He then waits until the dog is closer and jumps up to meet them. Has anyone else had this with their husky? I need to work on this so that he can walk/run past other dogs. Expecially as we want to train him on a scooter. I am also working on stopping him from stopping to smell everything, he only does this when we are walking and not running so that is not too bad. But some days he wants to stop after every few steps. I am working on this by telling him to "leave it" and "walk on" whenever he breaks concentration from walking and I know he is about to pull me towards something to smell. Any other ideas? He is very well behaved in every other aspect, but this is just so frustrating as I want to be able to run him on a scooter and don't want to stop every time there is another dog.
  15. We would be up for this. I'm sure Thor would stop pulling us too hard after a while...... I hope. Just don't ask us to go for a walk the next day! Haha
