mydreamhusky
When my husky was about a yr old, he started being super protective of me at dog parks after he was attacked on more than one occasion by pit bulls at the dog beach. Now when any dog approaches us, esp pits, he gets super protective if he's beside me on a leash & will try to bully & attack the other dog. It's not as bad when he's not right next to me. It's not every single dog but most. It's starting to get out of hand & I really wanna be able to go to the park with him without worrying bout what he will do. Any advice? Can't afford any kind of training for him right now....just lookin for a quick easy fix basically...if there is one....
BingBlaze n Skyla
If u can find some friendly calm dogs to socialise him with that will help immensely , my girl was badly attacked by another dog she's now fearful of other dogs and if approached in the wrong way (being ran at , barked at etc) she'll react , my boy is now protective over her , but when they're around calm dogs n don't feel threatened they're both as good as gold , I'd avoid anywhere offlead until u can be sure your dog is fine in that situation and stick to on lead areas where they dogs can meet safely
Emma
Agree with Nix.There isn't a quick easy fix that I know of at least. He's just reacting according to previous experiences. If you can meet up with other friendly and calm dogs then over time you can replace the negative memories with positive ones and then he'll feel less like he needs to protect himself and you. One thing I would suggest is to keep out of those dog parks for a while if you can, particularly with unfamiliar dogs around. Last thing you want is to add more negative experiences to the list as that's just reinforcing his beliefs that other dogs are a threat. SamK
Seems like your dog needs a bit of training. This might require a professional..
