sabresmum
I know there has been a thread on here recently about antivirus where it said that AVG was the best but unfortunately I cannot find the thread - does anybody know the website to get this off? We have tried but cannot find the free version to put on our new laptop. Also, on our PC we currently have Virgin PC Guard - is this any good, or should I use AVG on both our PC and laptop? Assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Sarah
Try this Julie http://free.avg.com/ I'd use AVG free on both the PC and lap top
barneyworld
A good firewall will help too - i find this one handy as it let me decide what to let in and out - as opposed to Windows firewalll which can't be fine tuned as much - it has a free version too http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-gb/free-upgrade-security-suite-zonealarm-firewall.htm

Marc
Either AVGFree or Avast are usually best ... Wouldnt bother with zonealarm. I can generally switch it off, so I would say so can most hackers LOL..
Skillfulmmd
I think it's good to mix it up, NOD 32 is another good choice and an anti spy ware program is useful to like spy bot search and destroy.

davidjk
nod 32 is one of the best anti virus progs out there, it has won neumerous awards, but you have to pay for it avg free is free, and it is good, but it often picks up viruses where there are none, and does not eat to much system resources. avast is also rather good, but it has annoying popups to ask you if you want to buy the pro version. norton product line is not worth the money. it is massive and bulky, and eats at system resources. if you have windows xp then you can download windows defender from microsoft for free, and it works. the windows firewall also works fine windows vista also has a firewall and windows defender built in so you only need to get an anti virus program in short if you are running xp or above get windows defender and turn on your firewall. for antivirus free go for avg free got some cash, then nod 32 never run more than 1 virus program they clash with each other and the best advice, dont download zwinky, icon programs, free games. and also illegal software. i know illegal software saves loads of money, but a lot of the time it is full of spyware, trojans etc keygens are are usually infested. cracks also usually infested. so you save some money not buying the program, but you run the risk of loosing all those precious files that i bet are not backed up to dvd etc. i have a friend who dowloaded an antivirus program ilegally, and it infected his pc with all sorts, it took me 2 days to clean his pc. and once you get 1 piece of spyware, it usually downloads more spyware. viruses/malware/spyware can steal your identity, wipe data from your machine, make your machine run slow, and although very very rare can destroy your pc.
