A man and a woman have been arrested and interviewed after 99 dogs were found in terrible conditions at a kennels, the RSPCA has revealed.

The animal charity said it interviewed the pair after they were arrested by Northamptonshire Police on Wednesday.

Police have now been released the man and woman pending further inquiries.

An investigation was started on Monday after the dogs were found in "squalid" conditions at the kennels in Brigstock, near Kettering, Northamptonshire.

A spokesman for the charity said the dogs have been sent to rescue centres in Nottinghamshire and Cambridgeshire.

They will eventually be re-homed, the RSPCA said. Four other dogs were boarding at the kennels and have been returned to their owners.

There is no concern over the welfare of the four dogs, the spokesman said.
