Husky's prey drive

Two days ago when I was walking my husky another person was passing by with her golden retriver. It was 4 yo old golden retriver and my puppy started preying on her and scared her.. It made me think about their prey drive and what could happen in the future and how should I deal with it, and if it's safe to be off leash when other animals are around..
What's your experience with husky's prey drive if you had one , and how did you deal with it?

Hi, husky’s have a very high prey drive, small animals eg squirrels, cats, mice etc are fair game if caught. Husky’s off lead is a definite no no, once prey drive kicks in they will ignore you, sadly many husky’s have died because of this. I’ve found whilst walking my 2 many dogs bark and growl at them and have done since they were pups, even tho one of mine is very friendly. You can’t train prey drive out of them but be aware on walks as they will pull if they see a squirrel, cat, etc. I redirect my 2 if they’re becoming too excited, but I’m also very aware of my surroundings, it’s a case of having to be [emoji3]

With the other dog being a 4-year-old golden retriever it's probably not prey drive, but how your dog socialises with other dogs. My desexed female husky Mayo is very very dominant and likes to hump other dogs; she also plays quite rough, which I hear is a husky trait. Has your dog been allowed to play with other dogs enough, like at dog parks? How does it interact with other dogs?

As for actual prey drive, I live with it. If I spot a possum or cat I make sure I'm ready with the lead in both hands for the lunge. She's been off-leash only at the dog park, and a remote beach where she's surrounded by water as we discovered she's not a swimmer. :)

I see a lot of dogs only on leash around our area and park socialising is very different to just on the lead. Most days at our park I'm dodging the smaller dogs as Harlow just paws them to play with her and then they cry so she chases them because she doesn't get not everyone wants to play with her! It can also happen with some larger dogs who think she's annoying but almost all owners see it as aggressive and sadly don't understand dog behavior.
