Most cases I saw at the store were mostly for show....I can drop my iPhone 4 feet and it'll be covered underneath the warranty (yes, the phone is covered. So if it gets smashed because the case has a defect in it or just sucks...they give me a new phone AND case for free!). It was quite expensive, I think around $40, but I'd rather get a new case then a new iphone... It's also semi water resistant and comes with a screen protector.
