  1. just a snapshot i took this afternoon
  2. So this afternoon, my dogs were in the backyard and somehow managed to detach a part of a 6 ft fence. We were inside cooking and hear the doorbell. It's the next door neighbor saying he saw all of our dogs booking down the street. Mind you we're in the middle of downtown Harrisburg, PA right now. Traffic everywhere. So obviously we ran out the door first going to where we usually walk them, but no signs of anything. We split up in cars for 5 hours covering MILES and MILES and no sign. We alerted the police, humane society, friends, etc. Everyone was helping, but nothing seemed promising. Around 6PM I get an out of state call (PA) and someone found Izzy, she was 7 miles away down the river on one of the busiest streets north of Harrisburg. She was munchin on a deer leg by the river. They got her, saw my number and called. As I'm going to pick her up, I get a call from the police saying they had found my other two, Niko and Keenu, in a field not too far away. So we got all of them back within 15 mins of eachother. Thank god they stayed together. Probably the most scared I've ever been in my life, I had lost hope. In the end, lesson learned!
  3. My female had the same exact problem. I found that tying wire around the edges of the crate was the solution. Try leaving some music on or a TV on near the crate when you are not home to provide some comfort. Freeze some peanut butter in a kong toy and when you leave, put it in her crate. She should have no problem working on that forever. I believe it's all about consistency. Mine is just over a year old and is allowed to stay out of the crate now when I'm not home. Rarely, does she ever chew anything. My advice would be to just stick with it, she'll grow out of it. You'll be glad you did.
  4. A dog of any breed jumping up on people isn't just a sign of wanting attention. It also means they don't respect you as the alpha. Not correcting it right away is taken as a sign of weakness from the dog. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
  5. I used the knee method with mine. Raise your knee up as they're jumping up so that their chest bumps into your knee and they have nothing to grasp onto. Use a stern "no" or "down" command while doing this.
  6. I've had problems of the same sort with my 3. We have a male that can be quite testy and stubborn. If he ever growls at me or shows any signs of taking charge with me, I use body language to let him know that I am in charge. A confident, but relaxed stare standing over him has always worked for me. Dogs sense fear better than any being, don't let the dog know you are worried about what he/she might do. Just some thoughts.
  7. Izzy is tough enough to brush as it is, she absolutely hates it. I'm able to get almost her entire coat everytime, however the fur around her neck is very thick, almost mane-like, and she developed some pretty thick mats behind her ears and a few where I apply her frontline on her back. Any suggestions other than cutting them out? Know of any shampoos or conditioners? Thanks.
  8. To be honest, I think you should take proper measures to make sure this dog is happy at YOUR home. Raising a puppy in a variety of environments can potentially lead to bigger problems later on. Sorry if that's harsh, but it's part of the responsibility of having a dog.
  9. I think a bunch of you misunderstood me and became defensive. I didn't intend on offending anyone. I obviously joined this board because I have two huskies. However, I joined the board to share and recieve tips and/or advice. I love looking at pictures of the other dogs on this board and the same can be said about sharing pictures of mine. Hearing husky-related stories is also fun. In my short time on this board, I've seen people complain about people mistaking their dogs for another breed..and my point is, who cares? Did you get a husky to show it off and make sure everyone knows it's a husky? Or did you get it because you enjoy the breed? I feel like the whole point of this board is to meet and share things with other people who own huskies, which is why I feel it's kind of pathetic to worry about some random people on the street mistaking your dog when the point of this board is to share things with people who do know and have huskies. Hope that clears things up. Sorry if I offended anyone.
  10. ...And I also don't think you parade your son around saying, he's a purebred whatever child...
  11. Just seems like many people would rather spend time on this board talking about how cool siberian huskies are than actually spend time with the dogs themselves.
  12. Not to sound out of line...but, who cares? You know what your dog is and you obviously love it. It's almost as if some people take too much pride and/or are prejudiced with their siberians (and other breeds for that matter). It's not necessarily an insult if your dog is confused with another breed. Let people think what they want. No sense in dwelling over a person who might not know what they're talking about. Just sayin'...
  13. Guess I should have been sticking my tongue out, haha. They we troopers, actually helped going up steep inclines by pulling so I lots of leverage.
  14. 2 hour hike up a mountain, the view at the peak was incredible.
