Change in behaviour

Amy is 1year old next week, I've been told they can go through an adolescent stage and start ignoring commands they usually obey, she's ignoring stuff she's mainly been really good at like recall and the ignore command.

Also, she has become a little shy of is in past few days and I'm not sure why, I did wonder if she is picking up on my frustration on walks ( I try not to show it and def dont tell her off!)

Could this just be 'stubborn husky'? Has anyone else had experience of this?

Cai is 15 months old now and he gets 'moody' as I call it, he will become 'selectively deaf' and acts a little like a teenager, it must be their age. I'm learning as I'm going along but I have noticed that the phase lasts for a few days and then he's back to normal.
Husky's are still developing emotionally and intellectually until they are 2 so I'm thinking that the changes are just a part of them reaching maturity, I'm hoping!

It was at around 1 year old that Astros sisters recall started becoming bad and she had to stay on the lead from then on. She ran across a golf course and someone hit her with a golf club because they 'thought she was a wolf' [emoji849]

I don't think Astro stopped listening to commands he has always been quite good. Sometimes when I call him in the house he doesn't listen but that's about it!

What is she doing when she's acting shy?

It's a breed trait to have selective hearing and be quite stubborn!

The acting shy seems to be when shes ignored a command, cowering a little like she knows shes done wrong and shes expecting a telling off ( I dont tell her off) and I never let her off lead anyway, just practice recall on long line, she'd be miles away in minutes!!!
She can def get selective deafness inside and outside!! I do wonder, as she has been with us for 3 months now, if she is just finding her feet and testing the boundries, shes got the little head shake and 'you do it' look down to a tee!![emoji23] I'm trying to do lots of indoor mental training and brushing her which she loves, to try to re build and strengthen our bond!!

Aww bless her! Maybe she is testing the boundaries, it's difficult with a rescue as well as you don't know how their previous owner was with them. I do wonder that about Koda as well seen as he didn't even know his own name when I got him!

Amy def didnt know her name when we got her she was called Tikanni but she def knows Amy! I dont think the prev owners did alot tbh she knew sit and paw but I dont think she got much exercise hence the constant escaping and ultimate surrender to rescue kennels - our gain tho so happy ending! [emoji3]
Also had a trainer/ behaviourist round last week which was brilliant but I wonder if all the new training at once has upskittled her too! I've emailed her for advice and hoping to het another session in soon

Oh brilliant! I suppose any new pattern for them takes a bit of getting used to, she will be fine :)

Koda was called Stormzy, awful name!

All of my dogs hit a teenage phase at one point or another. Ice went through it later but then his overall development emotionally and socially was delayed due to a bad start. He was also the most challenging and tried to test out those boundaries and push buttons a lot more frequently.
What generally happened was that he would be a right sod for a few days and once he realised we weren't letting him get what he wanted then eventually he'd give up and revert to normal behaviour for a while. Then he'd try again, and again. Good job we're both stubborn! Ha ha.
Dogs also can go through fear stages, most occur before the first year but there is one that is commonly experienced around one year of age too. I seem to recall that Bear was affected by that briefly. Oddly enough Ice didn't appear to experience that one. I have to say it is hard to tell as he was pretty fearful most of the time initially but what I mean is that he didn't appear to become any more anxious or fearful.

Luka seems to be going through a fearful stage, he nearly jumps out of his skin with noise when we're outside, not traffic, skateboards and scooters. Just thinking now maybe the fear stage makes him a little more defensive.
We could all be dog behavioural specialists by the time we've worked out what's going on with our fur babies!

I have said that myself before too. [emoji23]
We got Bear when hubby was driving home and she was thrown out of the back of a van in front of him. Police came and they thought she was likely from a puppy mill and being dumped (they obviously filed a report incase she was stolen) but it made sense because she had clearly literally had no human contact whatsoever. She was confident around dogs but confused with humans. She backed away and looked at you in confusion when you stroked her. So initially she was scared of lots of things due to a lack of experience and desensitising. After a while she was fine and ignored most things but then at a year she regressed for a little while and loud noises like motorbikes and stuff made her really jump, bless her. Thankfully it didn't last long and she's been fine again ever since.

Never ceases to amaze me how people can treat any living thing like that - its so sad!!

Makes me so angry how people treat any animal so badly, and we're supposed to be at the top of the food chain.
I've had Luka since he was 8 weeks old and he's been loved all of his life, breeder included. He was the biggest and most confident of his siblings so I wonder why he's fearful of some things.

So a little update, Amys trainer has emailed me back and she said it sounds like she may be going through the second fear period which can happen between 4-12 months old she has sent me lots of info and tips, it all makes sense and the best thing for them is calm, bonding, give them time and space, patience, no aversive training ( as many can do) as this can lead to increased fear and anxiety and lead to new unwanted behaviours! She made alot of sense, so I feel much happier that this is a passing phase! [emoji3]
