Aya Posted January 30, 2012 Report Share Posted January 30, 2012 Hi guys, Was just wondering if anyone knew how long Husky's (or any dogs) live for if they are on the raw diet. I know its healthy and my Aya is on the raw diet, but nobody has mentioned anything about life expectancy. A wolf's expectancy is generally 7 years (and they are eating raw) as opposed to general domesticated dogs who are fed kibble and live for 10-15 years. If feeding kibble will help my Aya live longer I might be persuaded to switch because I definitely want my baby girl to live her maximum life span, if it was up to me she would live as long as I would. Leyka&Diva Posted January 30, 2012 Report Share Posted January 30, 2012 hi my nans dog was fed raw and she lived to be 17 and half years old and she was switched at 8 years old, my auntie had a pup from the same litter who was a kibble fed dog and she only made 15 years. i've also heard of a newfoundland who was fed raw from when it was weaned til the present day and he is 16 years old (life expectantcy is 9 years ) personally as a raw feeder myself ill always feed raw from now on due to seeing the improvments in my dogs healths and after reading up on kibble there too many fillers and additive in most of them for my liking xx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They all said it was healthy and perfect for coat, skin, teeth, smell etc ... but nothing on life span so yeah. Thanks for that, real experience is always better than information in my mind. Thanks for any help. Actually, wild wolves that live that long is very rare. They actually die a lot younger than that in the wild, due to their inefficiency at hunting as they get older (they get slower, and less agile), disease, predation, parasites, habitat loss, and hunting accidents (being kicked in the head or the ribs by elk, deer, moose, etc can be fatal!) 1/2 of wild wolf pups die before they reach 1.5 years old...which isn't even sexual maturity. Keep in mind that the average litter is 4-6 wolves, but still. Wolves in the captivity, however, are regularly looked after by vets. These wolves live much longer on average...I think around 14 years old is the average? These wolves still eat raw meat, obviously, but they just have medical care as opposed to nothing.
