  1. thanks for your reply - subsequent to my original post our 2 year old male "husky from hell" cheiko stole a 1 lb block of butter & ate the lot paper & all - needless to say he was sick. we had to take him to the vet who discovered he had an inflamed pancreas due to the high fat intake - he's ok now & would scoff another "1 pounder" given the chance - he's an incorrigible thief for convenience sake i got our other 2 pups checked out including the blood test pending for the "thyroid" level + liver & kidney function - results came back today - thankfully all fine - however he did suggest that her weight might be the problem - she's 39kg but normally is around 35kg (77lb) - she's a big girl. anyway he wants a urine sample to check for infection however she hasn't wet herself this past 5 days. cheers.
  2. hi - one of my pups has been suffering from incontinence on & off for over 2 years. she is 3 years old & was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over a year ago. but when she was prescribed the med it stopped until recently. her last 6 monthly blood test & health check (oct 2015) was ok now this is the strange part - she only "leaks" when sleeping & at the same time most nights (around 9pm) - even if we take her out at 8.30 & she does a wee it still happens. i've heard it's a common problem but also that the meds used have significant side effects long-term (estrogen, propalin etc) so i would be willing to accept the inconvenience of a clean up rather than chance a serious problem occurring later.. she has no other issues & is going for her routine blood test next month. anyone had a similar experience? btw she is spayed. cheers
  3. this guy is high octane - 8 miles every day, kongs, antlers, the lot - our other two pups are even fed up with his antics.
  4. he gets about 8 mile per day & comes to work with us - we know a dog trainer but we can't afford £30/hr - knowing him he'd be as good as gold - he hasn't been too bad today he just sneaked two baps from the toaster.
  5. emma - thanks for your reply - glad you only have one half of our problem :-) - loathe the idea of a muzzle but thought someone here might have used it with positive results - perhaps he will just grow out of it - otherwise, he's a great pup lol.
  6. hi - i posted before about this problem but nothing has improved. in fact it's got worse. we rescued a 6mth old boy about 6 mths ago (we are now his 4th home). his previous owners crated him all day (8.00-5.30) & we gather he generally received little attention or exercise. he is now 12 mths old & is neutered. unfortunately he tries to eat anything & everything be it animal, vegetable or mineral. he has cost us over £1k in damage to our cars (now sorted with a crate) & furniture. for example this week alone he ate his padded bed (the 4th one), two 400g loaves (bags & all), 1.5kg bag of guinea pig pellets a 0.5kg bag of hay, 4 small ctns of tomato ketchup, my son's lunch (twice) and some of my wife's shoe polish etc etc.......... we try to keep everything out of his way but he is very big & is able to apply the additional reach of his long legs.with good effect. leave anything within reach on the kitchen worktop or elsewhere & whoosh it's gone. we have 2 girls & they are both a dream but this guy - phew!!. my question is, has anyone tried muzzle training - we are extremely reluctant to do this but we feel that someday he is going to do himself harm. cheers
  7. hi - we have 2 girls (both spayed) & a recently acquired a rescue boy (now 9 months). one of the girls is presently sick with what we thought was an anal gland problem but on taking her to the vet today he told us (without knowing we had a male dog) that the problem was a severe rectal infection caused by "penetration". my wife has arranged to have the boy neutered on friday but i would prefer to wait until he is at least 12mths + thereby giving his hormones a better chance to settle. can anyone input regarding the above & also any experiences with a mixed sex neutered/spayed pack particularly with respect to the male "humping" after being neutered? i am assuming that a spayed female & a full male or a full female & a neutered male would be considered as incompatible in any case? cheers.
  8. hi - i just noticed a large patch of clear odourless fluid (like water) on the ground where my 2 year old girl had been sleeping. it is definitely coming from her anal area. her stools are normal & she is eating as normal. several months ago the vet had to drain/express her anal gland as we noticed her licking that area a lot. anyone had similar?
  9. hi all - thanks for your replies. i already tried 'the dish' - it slowed him down a bit but he can still eat about 5 times faster than the girls. the cars are sorted out (except for the bills) - for now we just crate him in the jeep. forgot to mention - last week he started humping everything - legs, toys, washing machine, couches, clothes/washing carousel -you name it - however strangely he doesn't bother with the girls - i think he's insane.
  10. we rescued a 6 month male about 3 months ago - we are his 3rd home. problems & activities to date. 1) he recently completely trashed the back seat & chewed the front seat belt of my wife's 2 year old car - about £600 + damage. 2) i checked my 2 year old rav4 & discovered he chewed 3 of the seat belts - £325. 3) he continually steals food & anything else he can get from the kitchen worktops - we try to keep everything out of his reach but he's big for his age - for example tonight he scoffed 2 large iced creamed fingers & later about half a loaf - bags & all 4) he gulps his food down so fast that he almost chokes himself & even trying to give him the food is a challenge as he jumps up & won't let you give it to him. even when you withhold the food & make him sit, the moment you try to put it down he pounces on it sometimes knocking the plate from your hand. 5) generally he will try to eat anything be it animal, vegetable or mineral. we have to 2 other huskies - admittedly they too of have had their moments of husky madness but this boy is a real furry nightmare. any ideas - the vet has checked him out. also, he is now crated when transported in my rav.
  11. hi you guy's - just remembered i ordered dried fish skins from a local company on friday - they have this in stock & could still get it with my order - do you think it would do?
  12. thanks - i posted a link & see that "it's similar" to yours.
  13. thanks all for your replies - would this be the tool here ?
  14. hi - i've been using a furminator but have decided that i no longer want to use it as both my girls are visibly uncomfortable no matter how gentle i am - i just let it "glide" with the minimum of pressure. the comb is thin making the teeth very sharp - also there is no adjustment for comb depth other than the fur ejector.. i want something less aggressive looking with "rounder/thicker" teeth so as to avoid possible skin damage - i've heard of undercoat rakes - could someone please advise regarding or suggest any alternatives? PS - regarding the furminator - this is just my personal opinion & i'm sure others are quite happy using it.
  15. akira won't eat it - tried nearly every popular brand
