milk

Recommended Posts

Have you tried giving them goats milk once in a while ? I read not to give them cow's milk apparently its due to the lactose which can effect the intestinal system as well as the digestive system and give them the runs, now in saying that my dad's dog ( german shephard) drinks it occassional with no problems.. I give mine some goats milk as a treat every so often and have not had any problems with them with that but i dont give them to much, the goats milk is easier to digest but im no expert but as i say mine are fine with goats milk...

This seems to be the generally held opinion. . . biggrin.gif

Milk and other dairy productsSome adult dogs and cats do not have sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in milk. This can result in diarrhea. Lactose-free milk products are available for pets.

Studying Animal Management i was always told that cow's milk (including most dairy products) is not good for any animal other than baby cows really, it contains too much lactose if i remember correctly, so milk made for dogs, lactol??? (animal milk substitute powder mix) are better to give. i may be wrong, but this is what i've always gone by, i don't think a little bit of cheese here and there will have much affect on a dog, but generally dairy products give the runs if they have more than a little bit.

My husky drinks a cup of half and half with 2 raw eggs every morning for the past 2 years. He has never had the runs.

Buck is a tall lean husky. He eats mostly a raw diet but has fresh kibble available 24/7. He will leave the kibble untouched for long periods as well as raw and or cooked meat.

He self regulates his eating. I've owned dogs most of my life and have never seen the like.
