lucifer34
HEY THERE, @Kish07 That sounds like a good start! For a balanced homemade diet, you might also want to include a source of calcium (like crushed eggshells or a calcium supplement) and a multivitamin designed for pets. Always check with your vet to ensure the diet meets all nutritional needs
Isla the Husky
Hello, I came across this thread because of my female husky. She is 4 years old , 60lbs and seems to be allergic to everything I feed her. She was on kibble when I rescued her but it was causing anal gland impacts and leakage. I started giving her purchasable home cooked diets including farmers dog, ollies, nom nom and even tried honest kitchen. She breaks out on her face, consistently gets ear infections and chews her foot. I've decided to start cooking for her myself but I see conflicting ratios for home made dog food. Ex. I've read protien should be at 80%, 75% and also 40 to 50%. I've also read huskies don't require as much food. I'm really looking for suggestions on what ratios of meat, veggies and carbs I should feed her as well as a protien that is known to causes the least amount of allergy related issues to start testing out. thanks so much! wolfpup
Your first job is to find out what your dog is allergic to. One of my boys is allergic to 9 different foods - mainly grains and some vegetables. This limits the meat he can eat - he cannot eat any meat that has ever eaten grains. I had a blood analysis taken and IGE reactions confirmed exactly which foods and the level of allergy. Please note that hair analysis is NOT an effective method of testing - you need blood analysis showing the IGE reactions. Once you have had the blood analysis I will happily spend a few days helping you with a correct diet for her. You can spend years doing diet elimination tests - and by that time you could have a seriously ill dog on your hands.
