RE-Introduction.....It's been a while

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

It's been a few years since I last posted on here so I thought I should re-introduce myself.

I'm Sarah, and I first came here 10 or 11 years ago with my 2 beautiful girls Freya and Kyra.

Kyra crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 3 years ago - she was an older girl I adopted as a companion for my younger Freya , who was struggling with separation anxiety when I was at work. They had such a lovely friendship, and I don't think Freya would've turned out to be the well balanced doggo she became without her. She trained her better than I could! LOL She was so calm and had so much wisdom, she was really special.

Back in March of this year I sadly lost Freya too. She had developed an old age related heart problem , which medication could no longer control. :(

I was devastated - after losing Kyra we developed an even deeper bond than we already had and it's been really hard to deal with. I still miss her every day. She was a typical husky, a proper little madam most of the time but made me laugh every day. She was the BEST company and my best buddy🥰😭

It's taken a while to even consider wanting another dog but I'm feeling that pull again lately.  I am partly considering a different breed, maybe one that's 'less challenging'!  I've researched everything under the sun but it seems like most other dogs have varying behavioral issues / health problems etc, Maybe Huskies just get a bad rap - i never considered my girls to be any major trouble, other than an abundance of energy and lunacy. Sounds like your average Spaniel to me 🙄 And I once had a Dalmation that had such serious aggression issues I had to muzzle her for walks. Y'know what I'm saying??

So I'm appealing to you all here to either talk me into it - or talk me out of it!!! 😂 I'm mean, I'm sure I've forgotten all the bad bits of sharing my life with a young husky as my 2 definately calmed down as they got older. Remind me how painful it is to raise a young husky - or remind me of all the brilliant things about them that make it worthwhile.

If you don't I may end up with a Cockapoo! (are they so bad?! 🤣)

I would be getting a puppy, partly because of where I live (I need to make sure they would be properly socialised), but also I don't have a secure garden any more, so no rescue centre will even consider me.

Before anyone thinks potential doggo would be stuck inside all day, let me stress I actually live on a campsite (My fella is the onsite warden), so I have a motorhome and a flat that I can use.(I prefer the motorhome coz I like being outside 😊) The campsite is also surrounded by 3 miles of parkland and a 55 mile cycle path, Doggy heaven I reckon.  In fact , Freya preferred it here than she ever did in a house with a garden. She could sit outside my van all day while I worked, and had an endless supply of strangers and other dogs to make a fuss of her!!  Then we'd walk through the woods, around the playing fields, she could paddle in the river, up the cycle path as long as she could manage - I'd never seen her so happy😂

It's also kinda nice to be back here. I'd forgotten what a great community this is 😍 It's lovely to see some of the familiar names from before are still here too.

Thanks Nix.

Lots of walks is one thing that is guaranteed. 😁 My activity level has plummeted. I still go for occasional morning 'dog' walks, but I'm not sure all the locals want to say hello to the crazy dog lady with no dog! 😆

I didn't think this would be the place to disuade me !! I think the fact I'm even asking the question means I've already made up my mind.

Lets be honest, no other dog even comes close to being a consideration. 😍

How are your 2 beauties doing? I remember their gorgeous faces from before.

For heaven's sake don't get a cockerpoo   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :huskyfall:    My daughter-in-Law's mum has one  - its a mad as a hatter!    My boys are bouncy and unruly  - but that dog makes my guys look like Angels.      You already know that once you have huskies - no other breed will do   -  and let's face it  - having a dog (or two)  that have minds of their own and their own opinions - and not adverse to expressing that opinion .......... well  .............. its unique  -  and rather wonderful.

But you have already made up your mind it is a husky or nothing  - so no need for me to add my 2 pennyworth.      Don't be a stranger again - and keep us up to date with his or her progress and mishaps  .....................like some of the following maybe??

Aaaaw poor girl. Sending her big cuddles.

Freya was the same, towards the end she could barely walk 100 yards but she still wanted to swagger her sassy stuff and greet everyone we met! 😄

Ah my goodness what a gorgeous boy. 😍

That sofa is my fear...LOL.

The thing with the cockapoo was exactly what made me come back to huskies. There are so many breeds out there that sound a lot worse when you start researching. At least I know what to expect with a husky -  and if they do wrong you can have a proper conversation with them about it. Imagine having a dog that doesn't answer back! 😆

OK I've done it...... meet George.

9 weeks old and been with me 3 days. 🥰 He is soooo clever (Toilet training has been a breeze 😱)and soooo cute, but my word this is exhausting. 😂 I've taken 2 weeks off work to settle him in but I'm wondering if I'm ever going to have time to work again!

He's settled into his crate really well thankfully, and those 2 hour naps he takes are like heaven 😆 I have scratches on my face and teeth marks all over my hands. My cothes are covered in muddy pawprints.  Im surviving on Pot Noodles and 2 minute showers. I'm in survival mode!

I love him though 😍

No-one could resist him!    If it were me I would tell work to find a replacement and spend my time with him.      At least you know what to expect as he goes through puppyhood to teenager - and probably know how to protect your furniture.    Enjoy these two weeks!
