Huskymom87 Posted August 23, 2019 Report Share Posted August 23, 2019 Hello everyone. I need some advice, some opinions. I am a mother to beautiful huskies. One ran away she was gone for about 8 hours. She is one year old and 6 months with blue eyes. She ran away at night came back early morning. When she got back her eyes were full of sticky green and black fluid she could hardly keep them open. I rinsed her eyes with water for a few days. Each day seemed better. The 2nd day she showed improvedment no more sticky stuff able to open her eyes more yet still trouble keeping them open. The 3rd day finally I was able see both eyes properly but one was cloudy foggy and changed into brown. One vet said its a fox tail. Another vet told me its sun blindness. 2Huskyfun Posted August 23, 2019 Report Share Posted August 23, 2019 I had dealt with dogs in the past that got maced. If they were sprayed directly in the eyes that would happen. She either got maced by a person, someone poured something on her face, or she decided to tryout a new protein diet that sprayed her. Without pictures it’s hard to guide you on what to do. Are you absolutely certain that there is nothing in her eyes? I would take her to an eye specialist ASAP. We have one here that specializes in Huskies for snow blindness. Very hard to get in though. If you are over 100% sure she has nothing in her eye: keep her out of the sun as much as possible, (they do sell sunglasses for dogs) I would use the eye drops for the conjunctivitis (wouldn’t hurt even if that isn’t the exact issue), keep a very close eye on her. Conor O'Carey Posted August 24, 2019 Report Share Posted August 24, 2019 Agree with 2HuskyFun. Have that eye seen immediately by a veterinarian, who can then refer to a specialist if necessary. Huskies are amazingly accommodating to injuries and physical problems, so have her seen even if she appears somewhat nonchalant about her eye. 2Huskyfun Posted August 25, 2019 Report Share Posted August 25, 2019 I don’t want to scare you but. That looks very concerning on many levels from the picture. It appears the eyeball itself is enlarged, the pupil is not dilating correctly, the lens may be damaged, there is staining coming from the eye, and she could already be blind. If you can afford it (it would cost me a pretty penny here, but better then waiting for it to be more serious) she needs an eye specialist to have that eyeball scanned. That is going to be the only was to see the damage. My guess is she got maced. And unfortunately, from close range and the PSI coming out of it did the damage. Keep her out of the sun. Huskymom87 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Report Share Posted September 5, 2019 Hello everyone. I am here to give an update on my husky. I took her to her regular vet which did some test on her eye. He sent me to a supposedly great eye specialist. I love my husky girl with all my heart that day I spent a total of $900 for the eye tests in the vet and with eye tests with the eye specialist with medication included. I was given no hope that my dog will be okay. I was told she is completely blind from the eye and with time will be blind from her other eye. No idea what caused it. I was told it could have been she poke her eye, hit her head, hit her back or its just genetic. I was given five different eye drops to put on my dogs eyes. I tried it for the first few days which caused my husky to feel worse. Her eye also got worse. I decided to stop the eye drops and do my research on the eye drops. After finding out all the negative side effects they have and that is not going to make my husky see again I decided not to do the eye drops. My husky acts more normal without the medication. She howls, plays, gives me kisses and hugs when not on the eye drops. With the eye drops her eyes get weak she lays down all day mostly with her eyes closed. It is very sad to see her that way. I looked for home remedies to help my dogs vision and thats what I'm sticking to. I will keep you guys up to date. Thank you for taking the time to read and help me. I was given these eye drops for my husky; Dorzolamide 2% Dorzolamide/timolol Prednisolone acetate 1% Ophthalmic 0.3% Latanoprost 0.005% I attached some information about the eye drops and its side effects. Start looking into how to train a blind dog and start the new commands now so she will understand them later. Also arrange your furniture to give her space and then keep it that way so she will have the room memorized. I am hoping for the best outcome for you both.
