sabresmum
Has anyone heard of or used Bearshare for free downloads? My son is wanting me to put it on our PC but after having a virus at the weekend I'm not so keen!

taz291819
I would not recommend it. There are too many chances to get a virus or malware using a P2P (Peer to Peer) program like Bearshare. Torrent clients like uTorrent are safer, since when you search for a torrent, you can read other people's replies on the torrent, such as if it's legit, fake, virus, etc.. karly_larkin
hiya hun we did at one point use bearshare all the till time untill we got a virus after virus and one mother board later we stopped using it. Now we will not even think about using it i will p.m you what we use we have to pay for it but it's got a built in anit virus and and unlike bearshare you can not get porn from the site we use use. If you do not want to buy a new p.c or mother board i would not put it on your computer hun

sabresmum
Thanks for the replies. I think the answer is a definite NO then for my son. He'll have to pay for his ringtones and music!!
Lyn
I've used it, it's naff! (could never find the stuff I wanted on there) I do use Limewire, but (and it's a BIG but!)...You absolutely have to virus scan everything you download BEFORE you open it. My computer does it for me and flags up any nasties. Ive never found one in a music file, but you have to be more wary when downloading programme files. Definately won't allow either on the kids computers. They do me a limewire list. I download and check before transferring the files on a USB drive
Dunc
just before it gets out of hand I have closed the thread as downloading through this media is a very grey area we do not want to go down on this forum.
