Bad last two days

So after my girl went for a 45 minute free for all yesterday after breaking her collar, she slipped through the back door and was loose in the backyard. 

For the first few minutes I didn’t mind and even allowed her brother to romp around with her (without their muzzles). I kept the slider open to keep an eye on them and once they were done I called them in with no issue.

Well, this morning I noticed that a blanket that was left out on the couch looked a little funny.

yep, two big wholes!!!

I couldn’t find the peace’s anywhere and the edge was still wet. 

Now, I knew it was the girl because the boy was asleep with me all morning.

But still loaded up both and went to the emergency center.... 💰💰💰

First her; got her to throw up, but no blanket! Instead the vet informed me; lots of food, grass, a piece of paper, and a LARGE PEACH PIT! 😖😫😵 which would have at the least have caused a surgery in the next couple of days. 

The boy; will since she didn’t have the blanket pieces it had to have been him 🤔. Got him to throw up, no blanket.... food, leaves, grass, and pebbles.

(my poor pups, they are still high from the APO morphine) 🤪

So, we are on watch for the next couple of days and will be going through 💩 to see what passes. 🤢

If anything we probably just saved the girl, at least from surgery. 

So much for slacking off of them a little since they were being so good lately. Back to restricting access to rooms if I am not there with them and being muzzled the second they go in the backyard (if they slip out again)

One good thing though, hubby has finally agreed to let me chop that damn peach tree down and redo are whole backyard to Husky proof it! 😄😝🤗

Would love to know or see pics of you guys backyards for some ideas.

Did they definitely eat it , I have loads of blankets like that from being chewed on by the rats but they've never actually swallowed any of it

So hey arent acting sick or anything on their own? Huskies are pretty darned resilient. However that peach pit.... we have a puggle (much smaller dog at about 24 lbs) that, long story short ate a peach pit that in the end cost us almost $7000. (Pug became suddenly ill one night, we didnt know why). Had one surgery that was exploratory at the vet. Found a peach pit lodged in intestines. Thought that was all, sewed up and seemed fine...for about two days. Then suddenly ill abain, this time far worse. Went back, xray showed severe inflamation and deterioration on intestines. Rushed him to an Akron MedVet specialist. They ha e him a 50/50 chance so we said go ahead. Ended up having a heavy septic infecttion throughout abdominal cavity, took 30 % of intestines out. Now 5 months later puggle good as new.

Yours are they known to swallow inanimate objects ? Our female husky loves to chew up her blanket but shes never had an issue.keep an eye on them, their behavior, bowels, eating patterns, general health and activity.

I can’t find the missing anywhere, I tore this house apart! We also don’t have mice or rats ( inside the house). The cats won’t eat or even play with them but do let me know a new toy is in the house. LOL

Oh I know I'm just thinking it might look like it's been eaten but really it's just been chewed on so they haven't actually swallowed any , u should see some of the holes the girls have chewed in my sofa but they never actually ate any of it

I was a vet tech for many years. I don’t wait for symptoms! Once symptoms show you only have a 50/50 chance. There is an hour period were you can have them throw up an item (not a sharp or Chemical base item, but soft tissue) The peach pit was a surprise. (Thought we got them all) So, no symptoms. I knew from the size of the material missing and the edges were still wet and she is the one that eats everything now that we could throw it up.

Used to be the boy. 6 emergency vet visits. 1 chicken bone- whole, 2 sock, 3 a whole roll of paper towels, 4 edible bone 🦴 that he chomped in half and swallowed one of the ends,  5 stuffing ALL the stuffing in a pillow, 6 now the blanket.

She has the iron stomach, it was always the boy. But they have switched. 

The boy hasn’t ate anything. But my girl 🤯😖. 

They don’t shred things. God I wish they did. I would rather them shred everything in my house then swallow crap that would kill them.

The boy is used to the Morphine. This is the girls first time

Wow thats incredible. Well I certainly hope they stay well and dont run into too many more concerns like that.

Thank goodness the peach pit is out of her stomach, the chewing everything they see does get easier as they mature. Cai was worse for destroying than Luka blue and we had to have eyes in the back of our heads when they were younger. I love gardening and had some gorgeous plants in my back garden.........not for long! The pair of them dug everything up apart from one tree so we decided to slab all of the garden, we were fed up of the muddy digging, especially when it rained. We’ve recently put fake grass down and they love it, it’s easy to clean and for me I love to see colour in a garden, I’ve put planters with flowers in them all around the tops of the fences, out of paw reach! It really is essential to husky proof house and gardens when they’re pups.

OMG   I thought I had it bad   -   Marley just ate the arm off an armchair and another arm off my settee !    Lunar cost me around £3,500 in damages in his first three years,  -   tried to dig up the radiator pipes in the hallway, (I put down laminate flooring after that) took all the wallpaper off the hallway and stairs then started on the plaster, ripped off the stairs carpet, ripped up the carpets upstairs - took them all away from the walls, he ate through our fence gates and escaped with his buddy  - luckily the neighbours caught them (I was at work)  and I had to replace my front door as he could open it at will

At least they never ate anything that caused a vet trip.    However in the last couple of days Lunar has taken to eating rotting wood and inch thick twigs  then immediately sitting down and trying to vomit - so harshly that the sides of his abdomen go in so far that they almost touch.   He does not bring anything up though.    I think this might be his dementia causing this behaviour as he has never done anything like this before  (he's 13 -  almost 14 ).

My girl eats the fence. Never throws it up but poops the splinters. 😖I am normally good about catching her so she doesn’t get too much. But hubby forgets sometimes to close the doggie door and she will got out for a feast in the middle of the night.

We have a few perfect little circles eaten out of the carpet, couple of baseboards with teeth marks, and she started in on the plastic doggie door flap, cabinets, and shower door the last two days.

 I am trying the Barkbox that auto ships once a month. But this first box is taking forever to get here. Chewy and Amazon has spoiled me! LOL

I think that they may be getting board with their toys. Hopefully getting new toys will help.

Lamb bones kept mine occupied and still do, before I started to give them the bones I was forever watching what they’d be looking to destroy. I came back from town one afternoon when they were younger to find they’d completely destroyed the waste pipe that runs from the kitchen to the outside grid, so when my washing machine emptied it ran all over the garden and flooded it at the bottom.

We got our box.

Yep, I have already had to take 2 out of the 5 new toys away and I am keeping a close eye on a third. 

They just destroy everything. LOL

That is true! I am always telling hubby, see it’s normal, all Husky pups do this. Even the vet told him it was just something these guys do and most usually grow out of it. He didn’t like the “most” part. Hehhee 

I was hoping closer to two. But, I am seeing improvements.... used to be 2 emergency visits a month to yesterday was the first in I like 3 months. 

I am retired and stay home with them.... they still find away to get into trouble LOL

I’ve loved every minute despite the issues, they are so worth the effort required to train them, once you have that bond with them theres no feeling like it. I had my hip replaced 2 weeks ago and they have been fantastic, they’re careful when they walk by me as I’m on crutches, there’s no silly playing by me, they’re not leaving me at night as I’m sleeping downstairs. They know I’m not at my best at the moment and their behaviour is impeccable, it does help that I’m at home with them.

Definitely agree on the bond. Have that with our two. Wouldnt trade that for the world. Great therapy dogs, too.

They are awesome! When I don’t feel well they curl up with me. The boy is always glued to my side. The girl will stay close but she isn’t the lovingest (made up my own spelling 🤪) of dogs but will stay close and quiet.

They are sooo worth it! 

I have PTSD and an anxiety disorder. I will be seeing which one will be best to go through training. Most likely put both through it and see....They each have different positive attributes. They are so young still. The boy has already started picking up on my attacks and gets protective and will come lay on me without me saying anything. But he is very reactive to certain things. The girl is way calmer and listens better outside the house, easier to handle and picks up quicker on training.

Even if neither one is cut out to be certified. They are my babies and wouldn’t trade them for them world.

Kira used to eat harnesses. Niko once at a box of cereal, box was in 800 pieces. Lately, the worst we see from them is shredded napkins.

It continues!!!

 I am laughing so hard I am crying 😭 Hubby isn’t! LOL

Last night, husband was in the bathroom. Our toilet has its own door..... The boy was whining and crying scratching at the door. I thought it was cute that he just wanted daddy... Nope, the boy went straight to the tub and jumped in and peed! *daddy pees in a white round thing so why can’t I?* 😵😭 At least it was easy to clean 🧽 🧼 

Tonight... it has been on and off rain, snow, and sleet. The dog run is flooded. His sister was having a blast playing in the pond. Never seen it this full of water. The boy was laying by the slider and I thought he just wanted to go play..... Nope, he turned and gave me the stink eye and squatted right in front of the couch 🛋!

I am in tears!

This bad streak is not ending.

The boy is peeing on everything. The dog door is open and he looks right at us and pees. Even peed on his new dog bed.

And... the girl goes in for surgery first thing in the morning! Broke her tooth on the car window. *I never have it cracked enough for her to stick her head out because she rest her upper teeth on it and I have always been afraid she would break a tooth* Well, I didn’t check the windows before going on bye byes today and sure as shit it happened!

Pulp showing and all. Has to have it surgically removed and stitches! 

My poor baby is in pain, her brother won’t leave her side, and I am crying!

 I am kicking myself for not checking the windows.

Never had a boy dog but our girl used to pee on her bed regularly. It's a phase she grew out of and eventually learned to go outside. It was very frustrating and I got so sick of washing her bed. She used to also poop on our ottamen daily when we weren't home [emoji58] yet the dog door was right there and she'd go outside when we were home. It's almost like she was scared to go out when we weren't there. There's a lot of things they can get up to but remember not to hate yourself because you can't protect them from everything and it will get easier eventually

Please don't beat yourself up about this   -  accidents happen  - and you cannot spend your life trying to think of every single thing / eventuallity that might cause your furbabies harm  - you'll drive yourself mad with the stress.  You can only do your best  - and if they get themselves into trouble despite your best efforts  -  then accept it -  and hope that they learn from the experience.
