Puppy attacked

Recommended Posts

So, my 3.5 month old husky was attacked today. Dog bit her in the face. I took her immediately to her vet. Vet says she's ok, but to keep an eye on her over next 24 hrs. Her face looks swollen where she got bit. I'm feeling terrible because I took her to a regular kids park, not a dog park. We did our morning walk and she was on leash, resting. No problems.  When this couple with a big dog (I'm looking up the breed), came to try and smell her, she ran away from him. He followed her, I guess he didn't like her,  and attacked her.

I feel so guilty and horrible. So, no lectures, please.

I can't stop crying, I feel so bad. She seems to be doing fine. Better than me anyway.  I guess my question is, has anyone ever been through a similar experience?

Please, if your gut tells you to keep your puppy away from another dog, do so. Even if the other person claims their dog is friendly.

Possibly a Mastiff.

Oh no thats awful, poor puppy and you! No lectures here, sounds like its the other dogs owner who needs the lecture, hope shes ok and the other owner has at least offered to pay vet bill - another reason for keeping dogs on leads!!!

Hope your pup is ok  , not your fault as soon as your dog moved away the other people should have respected that and took their dog away , try and socialise pup with as many friendly dogs as you can so pup doesn't end up fear reactive

I do have their info. But No offers to pay the bill. I wasn't charged because the vet said she didn't need medication. So, hopefully I don't have to take her back. We both had leashes on our dogs. It was a perfect morning, until that mean mastiff showed up. The guy was already struggling with the dog. I noticed, and every time I replay the scene, I think of 100 things I could've done differently. 😔

Thanks. She seems ok now.  I thought she wasn't going to say hi to the neighbor's dogs when we got home. They have 2 smaller dogs and a 3rd that looks like a lab. She ran over to the fence and did her normal routine of running from one of the yard to the other along the fence next to them.

I feel like I'm the traumatized one.

I know how you feel , my girl got attacked not long after her 1st birthday this dog really latched on to her my girl didn't fight back at all but now she's fear reactive with other dogs , sadly other people still don't keep their distance despite all the signs of me trying to stay away from others but I try to stay calm or it just sets them off more as they can tell I'm worked up,  just keep up socialising her and now you know to steer clear of this other dog from now on,  glad your girl is ok

Thanks. I am proud because I remained calm during everything. Very hard to do. The guys wife didn't, and I don't think that was helping.  I mean I freaked out when I got to my car and again when I got home.  I am sticking to my neighborhood walks like usual.

@Xilonen1991 I think you handled the situation very well.🤗 And please don't blame yourself for this...it is one of those things that happened quickly without reaction time.

I never trust others with their dogs on a leash or off leash. They all seem to think that all dogs get along & will be just fine but not true. I always pay attention to my surroundings anywhere I go, with or without my dogs. If a dog comes up to me or my dogs and goes for an attack, I'm going to be fighting with that dog to keep him/her away & off of my dogs or myself (even if their owners are there). If they are not properly restraining or controlling their dog(s), then I'm stepping in to keep us all safe.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I pray your baby is doing great!!

💜🐺🐾🤗
