For me, I would have stopped at 2, even though I love all 3 of mine and can't imagine not having them. I don't think I would ever get a 4th one even if I had a bigger house/yard. With 2 I felt like walks were easy, I could take them both places and it wasn't a big deal. When I just had the one he was a nightmare and needed a playmate, so the 2nd one was perfect. When I got the 3rd, I felt more like a referee and walks were much harder. But then again, that is just me. I know many people with 4 or more dogs that it worked out great.
