She isn't good with other dogs

Hiya! So I got Gray a few days ago, she's 7. Not good with other dogs - I want to get her used to other dogs and start introducing her to them, but my friends with other dogs don't seem keen to allow a Husky near their dog.

I was wondering a) what can I do? And B) are their any Husky friends she can make around Watford area? Anyone in Hertfordshire??

She also doesn't play whatsoever. How can I get her to start playing?

And one more lol. She's the pickiest eater I've ever seen. Her previous owner gave me the food she eats, however she hasn't eaten all her food for 3 days. She had a bone yesterday and the day before, she's begging when we are eating, and she's eating treats. She ate a BIT of her food this morning....get this. Not off of floor or in her bowl she wouldn't have any of it, but she ate some once I fed her it on a spoon.

She's also biting and picking at her fur and licking a lot. Same with the base of her tail. Is this normal or could she have fleas?

Socialising can be difficult, are there any training sessions near you? Walk in parks if you can there are usually other dogs around. Huskies play can seem aggressive to other dog owners as they make a lot of noise and tend to mouth so if you can meet up that would be good.  Mine isn't a fussy eater but I think there might be a bit of seeing what he can get away with going on. It wont hurt to treat for fleas just in case.

Do u know why she doesn't like other dogs? If she was attacked then it's going to be harder to socialise her , u need to start with walking with someone with a calm dog at a distance and gradually over time reducing the distance b4 u even let them meet , once she's comfortable with walking next to the dog u can let them sniff each others back ends don't let them meet face to face for a while either
Huskies can be very fussy eaters she's still settling in too which might be why she's not eating much atm , I wouldn pander to her tho , she won't starve herself , the most I'd do is some hot water over the food if it's dry food to help bring out the smell but obviously let it cool b4 feeding

A full vet check might be a good idea too

I think most of this behaviour is because she is in a new environment, give her time and I think the eating, not playing and biting her fur will improve. However I agree that a vet check would be a good idea just in case, I think most vets want to see the dog when you register them anyway. Have you changed the details on her microchip to your details?

Do you know any of her history at all? Has she been walked properly etc? The not getting on with other dogs may be because she's been attacked before, or she's not been socialised properly. Try and find out if there is any dog training classes in the local area, some people do these for adult dogs as well as for puppies. That is a good socialisation opportunity. Also maybe contact a local rescue, the one I got my husky from has an enclosed area for them to play. If you have one like this near to you, they might allow you to take your dog there for a play date! Huskies play differently to other dogs so if they have a husky, they will probably appreciate it :)

Another option is to have a dog behaviourist come out with you to assess how she is with other dogs. I've had a trainer round at my house and she came out on walks with me, having an expert evaluate the behaviour, see how you're reacting to it and give advice on why it's happening and what you can do it really valuable I think.

You might find other husky owners when you're out and about! I've found a few myself now and made friends with quite a few who I go out for walks with.

What food is it you're giving her can I ask? I wouldn't worry about a husky not eating for a few days as when they are working they would sometimes go for days without food, however huskies are picky eaters and if it's not up to their standard they will turn their nose up! if it carries on for another couple of days buy her another brand and slowly phase her old food out by mixing it in with the new one. Lots of advice on here about good food brands :)

Should I leave her food down or take it back if she doesn't eat it and put it down for her next?

I would leave it for 15 mins then take it away...she will not starve herself...
