Funnily enough, I've only ever met one and he was a nightmare - aggressive, dominant and really dangerous. I don't think this had anything to do with his coat though, much more about the muppet who owned him! Mick

Mick Same here, I helped foster a Akita but sadly he was very dominant & agressive because of the previous owner I have met many a family to have Akita's as big soft soppy family pets I think they are lovely but have only ever seen short haired ones. x x x x x

Sarah
oh they are gorgeous! A family used to have an akita down the road from me but she mawled a kid he had to have extensive plastic surgery on his face - what the kid did to the dog i don't know but he must have been horrid with her Akita's tend to be more agressive but like with any breed, i firmly believe its how they're brought up and trained Can't wait to see more pics of your two they are beautiful
JHindle001
Akita's are beautiful dogs, really clever and I found really obidient, we used to have one you always feel safe walking them through dodgy areas... If I'm right the akita on the right is a Japanese akita, and the one on the left an american one, the Japanese ones are more chilled out, the Americans are more energetic Could be totally wrong but thats my guess... sanosukex
We had a Akita we baby sat when our neighbors were out of town. Awesome dog. I remember taking him for walks (with my family) I could even hold the leash. I was only like7 and the dog was bigger than me. He was VERY laid back. They are both Akitas - the Japanese Akita (the Akita Inu) looks somewhat different - much less bulky and more athletic looking. This was our Akita Holly (American type): And these are Japanese Akita Inus: Mick

The most common is red and white, but white, brindle and sesame are also permissable: From the Akita Inu Breed Standard: "ColourRed-fawn; sesame; brindle; white. All the foregoing colours except white must have whitish coat on the cheeks, the sides of the muzzle, the inside of the legs and also the undersides of the jaw, neck, chest, body and tail (Urajiro)."
