BlueWolf
I dunno how you can remain sane working at a shelter, I'd go home a complete wreck knowing I can't take them all in The exact reason why I had to quit.. Don't get me wrong, it's great working with dogs like the two above and see the hard work (and socialising) pay off for them to go to a new home. But at some point you'll get one you yourself fall in love with. Great if you can take them, awful if you can't.
psychgrl
This is Jaros. One of the dogs we had in the shelter. He could totally play as a role of an evil wolf in a movie For the record, he was an amazing and lovely dog. To compensate here's a good photo of him (He has now a lovely home with his new owner) Another one we had was Banovski. He was brought back to the shelter twice but luckily has found a permanent home now. He was another dog I grew slightly attached to Oh wow, absolutely gorgeous sable and black shepherds (though I'm a bit partial seeing as I have one of each )! See, I can see how they resemble wolves. I don't know. Having spent many years in the GSD world, I get so many updates on social media regarding different GSDs in shelters and rescues and struggle not to take them all. It breaks my heart because in most cases these are dogs that were obtained by people who didn't do their homework, realized they couldn't handle them, and then sent them off to a shelter. GSDs aren't easy dogs but if you set boundaries, earn their respect, and keep those minds occupied they can be amazing companions. Kind of like our huskies! Dan
Saw an amazing GSD today at the dog park. She was huge though. Would estimate she would have been at least 65cm, so a good 5cm or so taller than Loki. Well out of the standard for height for a female but she was so timid and friendly
PaulG
I am going to throw a spanner in the works here you could try a Saarloos http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saarloos_wolfdog I would like one of these myself but didn't work out that way I knew one in Scotland and it was wonderful dog to know they do need a lot of socialisation but its worth the time and effort I still rate gsd's in my top 5 breeds Saw an amazing GSD today at the dog park.
