Martian
After two false starts I now believe that I have managed to acquire a ticket for the 'Three Lancasters' event that will take place at the Aviation Heritage Centre, (here in Lincolnshire), on Sunday. This is a very rare event, (probably a once in a lifetime experience), to see three Lancasters together at one location when the Canadian Lancaster will join the Memorial Flight Lancaster for a fly past over East Kirby airfield, (home of the Aviation Heritage Museum), whilst the 'grounded' East Kirby' Lancaster is taxiing along the runway. A group of us ran over to the airfield, (two weeks ago), in an attempt to witness a similar event but the two airworthy Lancasters had been grounded and the event was cancelled - just hoping that the weather remains fine and all three Lancasters a given a clean bill of health this Sunday! Emma
Enjoy the day, should be one to remember. [emoji2] The two lancaster bombers were over at biggin hill airport not too long ago. Think there was a few hiccups there too. Fingers crossed for good flying weather on Sunday!
Martian
Emma, many thanks for your kind wishes. I suspect that sourcing some parts for a 70 year old aircraft can be rather difficult so I am sincerely hoping that they all mind how they go until Sunday! All credit to the aircrew and support staff, (belonging to the Canadian Lanc), as she flew over from Canada, (albeit in stages), last month and they have the return journey to look forward to at the end of this month. When you see these aircraft 'up close' and then take note of the 'agricultural' avionics, (and instruments), you then start to get an idea about the skill and courage exhibited by those brave men, (from both sides), who entrusted their lives to these aircraft, some of whom never returned home. Elyse
You're lucky! I have a model of her (our Lancaster, VERA), although I've never seen her in person. Take pictures for us!
Martian
Elyse, We had a great day, yesterday, and I took quite a few pictures but, unfortunately, I was not in the best position, (as there was quite a few people at East Kirby yesterday), so they are not composed to my usual standard, (I was taking pictures on my full size SLR in my right hand whilst taking video on my phone in my left hand)! I will try and sort some pictures, (and video), for later in the week!
