kchesney8
So Aspen has been fine all day, my brother was playing with her, then he got up and left....then her and my older husky were playing. She walks back in here and one of her eyes is dilated and the other is the size of a pin point. I have called the vet's office and am waiting for them to call me back. Has anyone eve had this happen? Could my older dog have hit her in the eye? This pic below is not of my dog, but it is exactly what my dogs eyes looked like.
Sid_Wolf
Please don't panic! Yes its not 'normal', and its best to get it checked to be on the safe side (take a pic to show your vet), but it doesn't automatically signify something terrible I know when it first happened to my girl my first thought was 'brain tumour!' or some eye defect But she ended up seeing an eye specialist and having a full eye exam and check up, nothing out of the ordinary. I've been told she may go blind in the future, but again she might not, no-one knows, but there isn't anything 'wrong' with her that they can tell! It should go back to normal soon, maybe after a nap, then it may well happen again in the future, or it could be a one off. My only advice is to use a harness if she pulls on her collar, in case its due to a build up of fluid behind the iris
MidnightPaws
Maya just had that happen to her recently, it switched eyes at night after the other one was getting back to normal. They were normal the next day, i would have liked to have taken her to the vet but my dads vet friend said it's nothing to worry about...It can happen if they hit their head hard on something. kchesney8
Ok, that is what I was hoping. Her and Tuff going rounds and round playing all day. She may have hit her head on anything, cause she is not that graceful. They went back to normal after 20 mins or so. I will still talk to they vet as she is on some meds for an upset tummy. Thank you.

sarahp87
My boys have this very rarely but it does happen. Totally freaked me out the first time it happened! My best friend is a vet nurse and she said its kinda their way of saying they have a headache (i.e not wanting to let as much light into one eye)... We can take pain killers when our head hurts and wear dark glasses etc for migraines but I think dilating pupils is their way of dealing with it! StarSydkik
Our Kallie's eyes do that when she gets stung by wasps, which she frequently does, as she is constantly snapping at them. Then she swells up, we give her Benadryl and everything is fine. sigh... One day maybe she'll learn not to.
