Every year you have to have your car put through an MOT . . . a health test to make sure your car is safe to drive.

You also have to provide info proving you have insurance then you can get your Road Fund License or car Tax

It is a paper disk that you must display in the windscreen of the vehicle.

Similar to your renewing your license plates each year but more expensive

Here we only have to put in through those tests if the car is over 10 years old. In Canada, its illegal to drive without insurance, but I'm sure some people still don't have any as its pretty expensive.

Over here both your insurance and MOT tests are on a national database, you cannot get your tax disk unless you have both.

Also we have police vans that scan your number plate, this cross checks the vehicle against the tax, insurance and MOT databases

If any one is missing then they will impound your car on the spot and you pay a hefty fine, plus daily impound fees.

If you don't get it sorted out quickly they can crush your car.
