Kai Needs Friends :(

I feel sorry for my boy, i really do, he loves other dogs to the point that i could leave him playing with another dog and walk away and he would be fine and to be fair, probably wouldnt care. But the problem is he is a typical husky meaning, that when greeting and playing with other dogs he does the whole jumping, hugging, wrestling type of play and other dogs owners dont understand this type of play even if their own dog is playing the same way so will usually drag their dog away or if they do let them meet, be quite reserved with it. Kai has met another husky twice and had a blast, both dogs were jumping around and playing and were really happy but unfortunately i havent seen that dog again. Just wish he had some friends that he could play with properly and who liked playing the same way he does so he could have some more socilaisation and  fun ... :/

I hear you on that.... Balto plays extremely rough and the owner's tell us to control our dog and that we need to teach it discipline. We have only seen one other husky here in Columbia but Balto was not with us and I was at an adoption event volunteering so I could not talk to them and I have never seen them again. Poor Balto has no clue why he is being taken away from the other dogs or vice versa he thinks he is playing but everyone else thinks my husky is trying to kill their dog.

Nikko plays very rough and comes on strong too.  We belong to a husky group in my area where we organize monthly meets in dog parks, and on Saturday we had 30 people show up with 20 huskies, so it was great that Nikko was able to play with the other dogs without worrying about him coming on too strong.  Although Nikko is sometimes too much even for another husky!

Yukon had a great time too but he is more gentle when he plays.

Poor Kai. We took Shadow to a puppy party when he was around 3 and a half months old, he was the biggest pup there but was the same age and he tried to play with one of the other pups...in the husky manner..after that everyone started picking their dogs up when he walked past. I tried to explain he was just trying to play with them but they were more concerned he was after a light snack i think!

Luckily Pip enjoys a good wrestle with him so he gets to play his way at home :)

Come to some husky meets then he'll make plenty of friends! ^_^

Aww its so tough on our pups, all they want to do is play eventhough it may look as though they want to kill the other dog lol, just wish people would realise that it is actual play and not aggression.

Can i do that? Never realised anyone could organise a meet, thought it was just the (dont know what theyre called, sponsors??) that could organise them.       I know, would really love another dog but parents say no more pets, so it will have to be when i get my own place, yeah its great seeing them play together, even though it looks really rough, you can tell they are just having fun :)

That's what the people in our group say, and why we prefer to have the park to ourselves because there were other dogs there that didn't stay very long because of how they played.  We always say that the huskies might look like they are about to rip each other's heads off, but they will sort it out, and they just play more rough than other breeds.

When I got Yukon he was a very little pup, about 10lbs, and Nikko was 55lbs. At first I was scared because Nikko would grab him by the neck and drag him, so I would rescue Yukon, but then he would go right back to him

I may be the only person to say this? But i think they should be able to play with any breed expecially if they are pups they can learn how to play with any type of dog! Mine play with all sorts of breeds, Skye can sometimes get a bit rough but corrected quickly they seem to know whether the dogs want to play rough or a bit gentler. Maybe its just me but i like that mine will play with any type of dog with no issues i wouldn't ever want to just stick to huskies as otherwise i would not be able to go near other breeds. Yes you do get alot of people who think they look aggressive sometimes but tbh i havn't had that that much and if they dont want their dog to play with mine its their loss :)

Mine's weird - he gets along with all dogs (even the little ones) EXCEPT huskies.  <_<

(Clarifying: By 'not getting along' I mean he never plays with them - he doesn't pick fights with them or anything)

Haha just like Shadow!

I get it, he plays fine with other dogs a little rough but most of the dogs normally play rough back, the problem is the owners, they think it is aggression so dont let the dogs play even if their dog is playing rough with Kai. With other huskies, i know that the owners get that their roughness is just normal play so i get that they understand what the dogs are doing.

Not necessarily, i went to a whole group of other husky members (not this forum) near to where i lived and even had their owners pulling their HUSKIES away from Shadow because he sounds growly when playing!!! So dont always be fooled by all husky owners will understand rough play because they dont always.

I agree with this, they do need to adapt their play style to other dogs. The problem is, you don't often find other breeds in off lead areas. If your dog is on lead, they can't really play. How come yours have been able to play with so many? :P

Broder's 17 months and has only ever gotten to play with less than a handful of non-huskies, which is quite sad. :(

I knew a couple of people with dogs when Shadow was a pup so he played with some sort of cross cant remember what it was now lol when he was tiny and also a rotweiler and a basset hound. There was also an off lead area where i lived at the time that he could go off securely. I have also taken him to alot of other various dog parks with a variety of different breeds.

He lived with two smaller dogs for a few months (and 2 other huskies)  :) there was also an off lead area there where we took the huskies to which had some other breeds go to aswell.

Then when i moved in with Rob our next door neighbor at the time had a chihuaha and some other small dog.

Now we have moved there isn't really anywhere off lead i can walk to but there is an off lead area about 20 mins away that another member on here has let me know of which i am yet to try but apparently a variety of breeds go there to :)

Also when we go over to Robs parents they have 3 cocker spaniels, an english setter and a shorthaired pointer (which Skye grew up being socialised around these :) )

So its just all been in the socialising of them both tbh i've always mixed them with other breeds! Also they can play on the lead i dont see why they cant! :)

Yeah thats true, but its more likely that hsuky owners will understand rough play, id love it if he could play with other breeds too, but there are hardly any other dogs around here and the ones that there are, they are either too old, or dog aggressive so i just thought it would be nice for him to make some other friends :)

Just waiting for the weather to get a bit better than i might be organising a meet ! :)
