Stormy Posted January 4, 2013 Report Share Posted January 4, 2013 I was taking some advice on a raw feeding group on facebook as Shadow cant have loads of meat due to putting weight on easily so wanted options to bulk his food out a bit! So anyway i got advice about vegetables and which ones to use etc!! And made quite a few all blended mixes and then portioned into daily portions Skye will be having it aswell but a smaller amount Mixed Veg (the frozen bags) Sweet potato + Peas Sweet potato + Butternut Squash Sweet potato + Butternut Squash + Peas Parsnips + Peas Sweet potato + Green Beans Parsnips + Green Beans There are loads of other varietys but you need to have atleast one root veg plus ground veg Took me a while to do as i steamed all the veg first then blended Some pics of course! I am also changing my meat supplier this month aswell as Shadow wont touch hardly any of the DAF only chicken and i think the quality has gone down quite alot... im changing to a company called Manifold Valley Meats they are a butchers covered by DEFRA and their dog meat is human grade So i am hoping Shadow will start to eat more varietys of meat! Stormy Posted January 4, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 4, 2013 It took me around 2 hours plus lol but it was worth it i have 25 portions i also got some sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds but unsure what to do with these yet apparently you have to grind them to a powder but i dont have the tools to do this as of yet! I want to get a food processor to as think it was be better than the blender and probably take a little less time! Snap I do the same. I add apple cider vinegar to Skye's meal to help the ph levels to stop killing the grass so much lol never added it to shadows didn't think it would make any difference to him?? Rosemary Posted January 4, 2013 Report Share Posted January 4, 2013 I use human grade Omega 3 Fish oil (5ml/day), and on alternative months I use Omega 3 Flax oil for dogs which I get from our Health shop. If you are already feeding fish as a part of their diet, I am not sure that adding the oil will make that much of a difference as they will be getting what they need from the fish. I fed fish for about two years, and then all of a sudden they refused to eat it - they will still eat tinned fish, but not fresh, so the oil is necessary for my two. Was just curious. I don't think Ryn would appreciate blended. She's pretty big on texture. Also curious as to the amount you provide him at a feeding. Well Shadow has a 1lb bag of meat which is around 500 grams sometimes a bit more it varies bag to bag! Then i add 100 grams of the veg mix as otherwise he is starving as Skye is on 600 grams of just the meat alone as she is harder to put weight on! If i gave Shadow 600 he would be massive as he started getting quite big so i had to lower the amount but he acts like i starve him without the veg lol Ya know after looking at those pics Im sincerely thinking of doing the same for myself let alone the dogs lol I actually thought of eating it myself and not giving it to the dogs it made me very hungry doing it all lol Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

elenamarie Posted January 12, 2013 Report Share Posted January 12, 2013 Great ideas! Sarah isn't on a raw diet but she dearly loves her veggies and fruits. Have you tried broccoli? That's one of Sarah's all-time favorites. I'm thinking about going to this kind of feeding but I'll have to keep some texture in it, perhaps puree half and leave half whole. She isn't much for mush-type textures. Funny, I had to do this for my daughter when she was a baby. When the time came to move to solids she flatly refused to eat any jar baby food except for the peaches. I spent every Sunday steaming, poaching, puree-ing, freezing, etc. As pretty much a single mom working 6 days a week it was quite the chore and I swore I'd never do it again. . ..
