Juneau Posted July 29, 2012 Report Share Posted July 29, 2012 Hello everyone. We recently took a trip to the vet because our dog James has severe separation anxiety. He chewed his way out of a metal crate and went to the bathroom all over the house, and cut up his nose. We tried doing all the behavior mods. that we've seen on here (slowly progressing to longer times away etc. etc. ) but nothing seemed to help. The vet prescribed Xanax(alprazolam) 1mg pills with a maximum one time dose of 4mg. He's 52lbs. So far we've tried the 1mg and 2mg doses with no avail. My wife and I do not want to have to give him too much of this med but he really freaks out when we leave. Anyone have experience with this medicine? We at our wits end here and we feel so bad for him. P.S. We both just started working again after being laid off. Longest dogs are alone is 6 hours.
