Hi everyone,

The parents in law went away to Greece last week, and we were asked to look after there soft as muck, 3 year old girl - staffordshire bull terrier (never been much of a staffy fan) ...so a day before they were due to go away I asked them to come over with her for an hour to see what Bowe was like with her & vice versa before they actually went. I thought socialisation for Bowe wouldn't go a miss, and they got on...GREAT!! i'm now also a bit of a staffy fan! lol, maybe's its just this one though as she's a lovely natured dog...

Anyway, off the rents in law went on Holiday leaving us with Maddie, and its been great! I really enjoy walking her, and cant wait to be able to walk Bowe!! :D

Apart from play time and outside time, both are kept separate as its only a temporary thing for both dogs. When together though they really enjoy each others company and its brought a whole new side of Bowe out!...jumping around like a little fox, yapping, and attacking lol! really funny to watch! took a few pictures yesterday I thought I would share with ya'll

Hi, yeah she's very dark in colour for a Staffy, she's not quite all black but does look it in the pictures. She has the tiniest amount of tan to her as well. Just taken on my mobile, so not the best quality pictures.

Really pleased with Bowe and how well she is coming along since we got her! :D

Mark, that's really a prize you have there! and to think you even considered giving her back << laughing >> they really do have a way of growing on you, don't they?

The pictures of your "two girls" are great, just think of the fun you can have as they grow up together << more laughing, and if you don't know already, you'll soon learn why! >> That still leaves two of your girls that I don't remember seeing pictures of yet.

The way Bowe was around the staffy is really good, self assured but not cocky, just out for the fun of it!

It's good to see you coming back with the pictures, you know you had us all involved with you and Bowe when you first hit the forum so y'all are definitely "family"!!!

So happy to hear about her progress!! :D I have to say she reminds me a lot of Ryder who's a husky x akita, so you might have a mix like you think :) they make a stunning cross though, as I'm sure you can tell! Hope she carries on going from strength to strength.

Hi Katers, thanks for the friendly vibes! :) ...your not the first to mention husky x akita, a friend of mine said the same thing, have you or can you, get any pictures of Ryder? by any chance?...it possibly adds up because the remaining (adult) dogs the RSPCA took from him were mostly Sibes but two were male Akitas?? So it is a possibility huh?? Bowe was sold to me as a Siberian Husky but hey, there was an awful lot of things the breeder told me which were total lies! so can't take anythin as 'the truth'

Thanks for your observation though :)

Has any1 else got any opinions? Or Husky x Akita cross, knowledge? anything is much appreciated, as always! ;)

Mark & Bowe.

Hi Al :)

Yeah, as you can imagine my misses has been saying the same thing to me the past couple of weeks, everytime we notice something new its "ahhh see, and there you were writing her off" lol! Over the moon with her progress and as for her eyesight, I'm no expert but I'd say she is almost perfect! She's so sharp and switched on to things now, its great to see :) considering 3 and abit weeks ago, she was said to be totally blind! :D ...as for pictures of my girls, little Evelyn my youngest and Bowe love a photo but my older girl and my Fiancee are a little camera shy lol, no idea why cos there both GORGEOUS! ;)

I'm pleased with her around the Staffy aswell for such a young pup, like you say she seems to handle things perfectly! Not to shy and retreating, but not to daft and wild, I'm really impressed with her :)

As for this Forum...I'm on a few VW, old skool VW & Audi Forums as well but none of them are anythin like this place! In a good way, of course :)

Glad to be part of the family :) even if Bowe is Husky cross Akita (still unknown) lol...

Have you or can you, get any pictures of Ryder? by any chance?

What age is Bowe? I have photos of Ryder from 5 weeks, so I can try and find one of him at roughly the same age :)

This is Ryder when he was a little thing though

Trying to picture him with his ears down, or Bowe with her ears up mind! :) really see a similarity in facial features, but that might just be me.

These are straight 50/50 husky x akita puppies, was trying to find one on google with their ears down :) I know two other husky x akita mixes next to Ryder and they really are a gorgeous cross breed temperament and looks wise.

Thanks for the reply regarding Ryder! Much appreciated. However, I cannot view the link/pictures tho? :( any ideas?

Weird! Works on my phone but not on my computer. Will try again :)

This is Ryder at around 9 weeks old:

And here are a few stock-ish kind of photos of an akita/husky cross puppy. Tried to find one with similar colours to Bowe :) here's one and another!

I'd be happy to help with any questions over the cross as best I can, but it'd probably be a good idea to read up on Akitas just in case as if she is a cross you really don't know what traits will be thrown up! There are 2 husky x akitas in my family and they are both completely different both looks and personality wise! Ryder is typically husky to me with his personality, but it's counterbalanced by him being very wary of strange adults (he will place himself in between me and the stranger while he weighs them up) and he's by no means anywhere as demanding exercise wise as huskies on here seem to be! My Dad's puppy Nigel is the opposite, he has the calm and laid back personality of an Akita, but is very friendly to anyone on sight. He also has the trait of not showing any signs of annoyance until he snaps (normally pushed by Ryder!)

s200rey I don't have an Akita but I know tiffany have one. Maybe she can give you a little introduction to the Akita breed so that you'll have knowledge about both breeds? All I know is they're slightly moody and some of them doesn't like sharing a home with other dogs but still they make great family pets :D

Thats better "I CAN SEE NOW" :D lol...

Thanks for the heads up / advice above, much appreciated, the first on the generic photos so to speak, looks JUST LIKE Bowe! so were possibly right about the cross. I do love Akitas! and although you hear many horror stories, its all in the adult dogs, and a lot of the time its how you raise them. Bowe is going to be the only dog in our family, and she has been around my kids since day 1, so i'm entirely confident she will be great with us, and make a great family dog, and I dont mind for one second her been a little protective if she turns out that way, and the people who come round my house, have also come round since day 1 so if they continue to visit once or twice a week, hopefully no problems will develop there either. As for total strangers, as long as she isn't nasty - nasty, i'm not worried :) dont think she will be anyway.

So, off I go to do some Akita research, what type of Akita's are most common? The two the RSPCA were white/cream/beige in colour? Just so I have more of an idea of the 'right' breed.

Thanks for offering your advice and expertise though, and I will no doubt give you a shout if I need any more...

Thanks!

Mark & Bowe.

Well luckily Bowe will only be a single dog, in our family, so as long as she grows up around my friends / families dogs, hopefully all will remain 'playful' off I go to do some Akita research though (not whilst at work tho :P not a lot any way lol)

Thanks mydiamond, and hopefully Tiffany might pop in shortly to advise further...and possible give me her opinion on wether she thinks she is indeed a husky x akita, its probably a little hard to tell at 7 weeks though hey?

Thanks again,

Mark & Bowe.

actually, it's possible to make a guess at 7 weeks of age even if it might be quite tricky for beginners' eyes. Experts would know from their head shape, muzzle shape etc etc but looking at pictures would make it more of a challenge IMO because they need to observe the dog's movement too

Totally agree with what your saying...its hard for me, because although I have a fair amount of dog / breed knowledge, its in springer spaniels, border collies & german shepherds. I do have a friend who has 2 full breed American Akita's (HUGE dogs) and know of a man with a full breed Sibe Husky (have mentioned this forum to him) but apart from them 3 examples of the breed, my knowledge is very limited, so its impossible for me to say too. I showed the man with the Sibe, Bowe and he said she did look like a Husky pup but said it was hard for him to say because he got his when she was 1, lol. I'm yet to see my mate with the two Akita's but I remember them when they were puppies and they were nothing like Bowe...so i'm 'non the wiser' ...I wonder if there are any 'local to me - experts' who could take a look at her for me??? i'm not worried, but it would just be nice to know, probably help training wise also.

Mark & Bowe.
