Good bye, my Shadow

Recommended Posts

I lost my best friend today - Shad passed over the Rainbow Bridge. My vet came out and set him free for me. He gently slipped away under the shade of a maple tree in my yard with me to hold him close, and his Auntie Becky to rub his face.

We had 14 years together, and they were each of them wonderful - I will miss him terribly! His mother, Ari, was my best friend before him, and she taught him well - he has followed faithfully in her paw prints. Shad-love, it was a privilege to be your human - you were my Heart-dog! Wait for me on the other side!

R.I.P Shadow - you will be sorely missed :rainbowbridge:

Your life was a blessing

your memory a treasure…

You are loved beyond words

and missed beyond measure…

Think of him as living

In the hearts of those he touched.

For nothing loved is ever lost

And he was loved so much!

Oh gosh Gigi! It has really been a terrible day for you. I am so so sorry. We all have a really special dog in our lives that touch our hearts in a way no other dog will. I am feeling really sad for you as we all were aware just how special Shad was and always will be to you.

Run free Shad, you'll be with your mummy again one day.

I am so sorry, Gigi.

Feel comforted in knowing that you gave him the best he could have. How many huskies cross that bridge having done what they were intended to do - pull! He had a great owner!

Shad, enjoy the snow with Roller.

Thank you - everyone! I appreciate your thoughts... He's been slowly getting worse, but it's accelerated over the past week - the last few days I've had to help him stand to pee, and he wouldn't poo until he absolutely couldn't hold it any longer, because he couldn't stand long enough or move easily enough to do it on his own. The last two nights (not during the day, interestingly!) he's had some moments where he truly seemed to be in pain, so it was time to let him go... I will miss both of my boys, but Shad was really something special!

Yes, @Biggles - that's Shad and his brother Chi (like Shy - short for Chi-town/Chicago) at lead. Roller is the wheel dog you can see between them, and Shad & Chi's older half sister, Gabby, is the other wheel dog.

:cry1::cry1::cry1: RUN free Shad! :rainbowbridge::rip:

Don't know if this has been posted before but I like it...

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds;

my ears that hear above the winds. He is the part

of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a

thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the

way he thumps his tail at the smallest smile; by the way he

shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.(I think it

makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for

me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I

am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy,

he is joy unabounded...when I am a fool, he ignores it. When

I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man.

With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has

taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a

secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me

understanding where before I was ignorant. His head

on my knee can heal human hurts. His presence by

my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown

things. He has promised to wait for me...whenever...wherever-

in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have.

His is just my dog.

Thanks everyone, and especially Brian @Sid&BellaNTX - I hadn't seen that one before, and it brought me to tears - so true! He always wanted to be with me - no where else! Up until the last 9 months or so, if it was cool enough, he went everywhere with me! He'd lay in the back seat of my pickup (no dog box for that guy!) and wait (more or less) patiently for me, until I came back. God broke the mold when he made that dog!

Oh Gigi, my heart goes out to you. I remember last summer, how majestic Shad was, how gentle, and yet he commanded respect. Not by being aggressive, but by being so confident and sure. I am so sorry, for your loss of both Shad and Roller. May they run free together. Zoya and Eisa send Husky Hugs.
