kkamidoi
My 10 month old husky is losing fur & quick. I can pull clumps of hair out so I was just wondering if it's normal for him to be losing fur like that. I do live in Hawaii & I'm assuming that the weather has something to do with why he's shedding so much. Please help....Thanks!
RJHale
sounds like he could be blowing his coat. it is completely normal and natural. just keep up with the grooming and wait it out

Celestial Echo
Echo has started blowing her coat for the first time. I was worried because it is winter, but it seems like it is still really thick. Last night, I tried to put her on her harness and leave her outside because it was snowing, and I though she would want to play.. instead, as soon as I went inside she whined and whined. She doesn't want to be alone

jeanyz
Call me crazy, but I think the clumps of fur are kinda fun. As Becky mentioned above...there's someone who recently posted on this forum who is looking for extra husky fur to knit. Get a Dyson Animal vacuum (the purple one). One of those has gotten me through 4 dogs and 2 cats. No breakdowns yet!!
BingBlaze n Skyla
keep an eye on the video section - im just about to upload a vid of me brushing my boy
princessmom
I agree with Jeany. I love a good coat blow. It's actually much easier on both the owner and the hoover than having a lab x sheltie. Our last dog shed constantly, not in clumps but individual hairs that would collect in big tumbleweeds and blow across the kitchen whenever someone walked by. I hope all these crazy people have set your mind at rest! were you not made aware of this husky trait by the person you got your husky off? It's the first thing I would tell ANYONE thinking of getting a husky!! Happy plucking!!
Sid_Wolf
Im a bit odd, I dont use the brush until I really have to, I corner them and pluck the tufts!!! Its sooo theraputic!! For me and Kira anyway, Grey just sits there and grumbles at me Both mine are blowing now, and the hoover just took its last breath!!! TysMama
Must just be that time of the year for huskies - I have been brushing mine at least twice a day to try to get the clumps out! His worst spots are by his hind legs, and if my little bugger doesn't get a treat - I can forget about brushing him!

jeanyz
Hahaha!! Lessa - just as I was reading this, sitting in the kitchen, I look over and see one of those giant tumbleweeds lying right in the middle of the floor! (Check out the photo) That was courtesy of my friend's English Sheepdog. I just measured it and it's 7 inches long!! (+1) for making me LOL. Removed #2
clumpets and tumbleweeds, love them both, it's a good excuse to both vacuum and not vacuum. it's never gone, the hair is everywhere: even in the freezer...and the pans, so there is always hair in the food. There's a cup on the animal rescue site that says Everything tastes better with dog hair. When I had a lab, my kids were babies and one of the first things my daughter said was: "Mommy...hair! I laughed then, and she's now 26 and finally realized she can't get out of the house wearing black (when she visits) without tufts of hair attached! Love a good coat shedding! francham
lol this is brilliant - i came on to ask the same question because tai has been shedding BIGTIME ever since the first big freeze we had here at the end of november, i have been literally plucking tufts out of him for a couple of weeks now it is completely mental, and brushing him is just WOW - i end up covered in it and its all floating in the air and its all over him and the hoover is continuously filling up and he just looks like hes getting smaller and smaller haha if what it says on here is correct that it only lasts a month hopefully he will be nearly done in a few days, fingers crossed!! trackers
Lol my Rascal wont sit still long enough for me to brush him. I have to bribe him all the time and even then your lucky if he stays in one spot for more that about thirty seconds. I usually run around after him and brush him for thirty seconds a time. Im sure the dogs does this on purpose,as to him its just a game.
snssewell
Yep totally normal. Zihna has not blown her coat yet, but Whisper sheds like a Husky since he has that Chow Chow undercoat. I just picked one of these up at the pet store the other day http://www.petsmart.com/product/zoom/index.jsp?productId=3465561 OMG you gotta have one of those if your dog has an undercoat. It gets all those fuzzies out with no problem. I love it. I got a real cheap one just to test it, but when it falls apart I will get a more expensive one. I always pluck those tufts out by his hind legs too that's the only place he gets them a lot....love it!!!

I would also recommend an undercoat rake too. They look sooooooooo much better once they've both had a good going over with both .
