I've already choose the name NANUK. il try upload some photos when I can. Any advice on training and food supplements will be great. I'm a professional boxer and jog every morning and bike alot. So this breed of dog is perfect for me. Is there any important things that I should know?? Any help you guys can give me will be great. Thanks TC. SarahNukka&Shadow
Welcome Trev and Nanuk! Well training, keep it short and fun Huskies get bored easily, food is great as a reward as MOST are food orinentated but you'll find out what your pups like when you get him he might prefer toys. Food, get a good quality kibble with no grains, or alternatively look into RAW feeding as huskies can have sensitive tums specially as pups. Exercise... the rule of thumb is 5 minutes per month of age so when young walks want to be short but interesting (plenty of socialisation with things hes going to meet out side, traffic, other dogs etc) try not to jog or bike with him till hes at least a year old as their bones are still growing up till them so you can damage them with too much too soon. Other than that, pictures pictures pictures!! They grow up sooo fast and well we wanna see!! Good luck and shout up if you have any other questions! snssewell
HI!! And Welcome!!! Yeah what Sarah said!! I know you gonna be anxious to go jogging with Nanuk, but please please please wait till he gets older. You can still run around with him and play in the garden (if yo have one) or around the house. Zihna is always in a hurry so when we walk I often run a bit, walk a bit, run a bit, walk a bit. (not too much running since I am soooo out of shape as far as jogging  ) Just make sure not to do to much to soon. I just started running a bit recently and she is almost 6 month old now. Its also better for them to run on grass instead of concrete as it is not as much impact on their joints. A good idea will be to go to a park and have him on a long training leash and just get silly with him. Or the dog park and he can run around with other dogs off leash. They just love it. But make sure he has had all his shots before starting to take him out on walks and to parks etc. You will find a lot of great info on here. And he is absolutely gorgeous, he kind of looks like trouble on that second picture.... LMAO!!! Please please please....more pics as soon as you can. WE LOVE PICS!!!!! Wreckingcrewe
thanks guys. i have a nice size garden for him and live next to a bridal path and its got grass on the sides and goes for miles, he'll love it. plus loads of big fields around my area. Any advice on feeding and treats? training?? even where to keep him in the home as a pup and as a adult, coz ive read they like to keep cool? WOW, could of done with 5huskies and a sled in this weather (just looked out of window).
HuskyCouture
you're going to want to check out a good quality kibble (taste if the wild, orijen, just to name a few) or a raw diet. their stomachs are sensitive. training be very consistent, they're a stubborn breed and do as they want so start young! for treats my Embry loves cheese cubes that i cut up and slices of hot dog! as for where to put him, i'd say in the family room in a nice comfy crate for when he's alone and bed time. kaptainkiely
hi welcome to the forum only been here a few days myself but i think its great you learn quite a lot fast. i used clicker with mine for a while and worked a treat but sometimes if not in the right mood will just ignore it completely. typical husky i think lol. defo worth a try i have had my husky a month from rescue and was easy for him to get used to he is 18 months as well. Wreckingcrewe
Cheers. I'm off to get Nanuk a bed, is there a good or bad bed or just sumink soft and comfy??
meeshsalts
Welcome, lovely pup, you maybe getting him after Christmas but I'm sure he will be your best present. I would start on raw (prize choice blocks are 80p each and at his age half should be enough a bit of good quality kibble will be good as well. It maybe good to get him a crate to sleep in then he will get used to it now rather than later. Dog beds, don't pay to much until you see he will not destroy it. I got Buck a Danish design bed cushion and he destroyed it the first day. Thank goodness I got it from work because at £30 it would have been an expensive toy for him to destroy. PnkFlyd204
Welcome Trev! Your little pup is quite beautiful. I, too, very much like his markings. As for your questions... 1.) Training I personally took my boy Viggo to a puppy class when he was about 3 - 4 months old and when that ended, I just continued with training myself at home. I think the class helped a lot though honestly. Viggo knows sit, down, paw, high-five, and speak. However, I do not and will probably never trust him off leash in an area that is not enclosed. 2.) Food Viggo has a bit of a sensitive stomach. I second looking into a good quality kibble and/or a RAW diet. My boy gets Blue Buffalo kibble for breakfast and BARF for dinner. This seems to treat his stomach pretty well. 3.) Bed I bought Viggo a bed when he was a puppy. He used it a little bit. Now he only uses it to store his toys and hide doggie treats, LOL. Your pup may be different though. Can't wait to see more pics of your boy!!!
