Hi! I'm glad to hear everything is going relatively well so far! After reading this thread, I just have a quick question, more for my own education than anything. I take it that you're using puppy pads to help housebreak Nikita? And a pad is in her crate, which I assume will eventually be moved towards the door, and then not used at all? I'm interested in learning about different potty training methods because we'll be bringing another husky home shortly.

I was just under the impression that you don't want dogs to go to the bathroom in their crates at all, because ultimately a crate is a toilet training tool. Lyra was pretty easy to housebreak, but we literally got up every two hours the first couple of weeks to take her outside, and whenever she whined we waited for her to be quiet and then took her out... Have you considered taking Nikita out when she cries, since she doesn't have bladder control yet, or is that what you're using the pads for?

Please keep us updated on the housebreaking! I learn something new all the time. :)

I used the puppy pads with my two when they were pups - had a pad next the back door as he couldn't go out as a pup before his jabs then when he could go out i put the pad outside the back door

Thats exactly what I'm doing Sarah, the pad is by the back door lyra/aaron. In her crate she has a towel for a blanket as the breeder said we would need something tuff lol she has a crash mat underneath, really nice from pets at home.

The puppy pads have been brilliant, but I also think this has been helped by the breeder I got her from, he has been brilliant at getting her as far down the line as possible before we collected her. She has always gone in her crate volenterally, but hates the door being closed. We are putting her in there with the door shut 2-3 times a day now for 5mins and it is already claming her down.

Hi Silke, thanks for your comments. I know another would be nice in a while, but they break the bank a bit lol She had a really good night last night, howled for half an hour at bed time, and then once at 6 in the morning but just bangin my foot on the floor seems to stop her at the mo, so I'm going with that, poo and pee was all in the right place, no complaints. :)

Next on the to do list is teaching the kids how to 'be' with her and just to try to stop her mouthing them as in their book it counts as biteing :)

Sounds like she is coming on in leaps & bounds! Well done, you're a husky puppy natural!! You're doing the right thing with carrying her out & about, getting her used the noises of the great outside world, just wait till she's had her jabs & everyone will stop you to pet her, it will be good for her socialisation

Keep up the good work .... err, can we have piccies? Pretty please??

Timmo you sound like you are doing a great job - it really is just like having a human child all the potty training etc etc

Even when you get her on a lead and take her for a walk it will take forever as everyone will what to coo over her lol.

I am sure somewhere down the line you will find that you will be thinking of another one - they really should come with some sort of warning around their necks - HUSKIES ARE ADICTIVE!!

Lol @ the addictive....but yeah your right!

Cheers for the good feedback, I appreciate it, and anything I'm doing wrong I'd me more than grateful for a ticking off

Went round my mum's and it went cool, Nikita wee'd on the carpet first off, even though I'd taken a puppy pad round with me. Although the mistake I made I think was it was a clean one.

So I cleaned up the wee with the puppy pad and put it back down and hay presto, job done! I'd like to pat myself on the back but I think it's a case of Nikita being quite clever more than anything.

The thing I have noticed today is she is getting a bit more lairy now, pushing the boundries a bit. She got hold of some news paper round mum's and I had bit of a face off with her getting it back, but we got there, I had to take the paper off her forceably, to which she was growling and barking at me lol so I held her head (gently) and gave a right good talking to, promptly after this she came and fell alseep at on my feet so no grudges :D pleased about that, it would be easy to let them get away with more.

It don't help round my mum's as she's quite easy going and was quite happy for her to jump on the sofa, but this isn't something I want to encourage so its laying down the law with my mum and dad as well lol.....its all about consistancy I guess!!??

Ah...and she's just it the dog house now! Sounds like she's poo'd on the front room rug...opps!

And pic's sorry val will do, I'm such a lazy sod :)

Hi AGAIN everyone, been away a while but just to fill you in, my son has a lifetime cronic illness and has been in hospital on and off the last few months so...new dog and hospital juggling has been fun! Computer comes last I'm afraid lol

Just an update Nikita is doing brilliantly, a really wonderful dog, extremley loving, where ever I go she's at my side in the house, stop for a second and she's lying on your feet lol

She responds really well to a whistle(from your lips) and even better to a little metal whistle I brought she can't come back to you fast enough, and immediatley sits on command when she reaches you if say sit, when she's about 2 meters from you......does that make any sense :)

here are some more up to date piccys as well.....

Cheers Sarah...yeah its hard...really hard, this is the worst time of year for him obviously, but he's only 4 so fingers crossed he'll get stronger.

Nikita is mental, we're feeding her 3 times a day now on about 100-110grms of Iam's and every now again, rice, chicken, beef, vegatables...she loves carrots...if any of this is a no no any advice appreciated. Do you think 110-100 grams 3 times a day is enough?

And a couple more piccys....
