Sarah Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 As some of you may have read, i've just ordered a walking belt for when I go to the Wales race in a few weeks. Do i literally just attach him up to it and off i go? How do i stop him from pulling me over and dragging me through the mud?? Any hints or tips would be appreciated!!!!! :ran_biggrin: Quote
PeiperSky7 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Hi Sarah, The Walking Belt has a plastic snap buckle a little like those on a back pack.Below the buckle are 2 webbing lines with a "D" ring at the end. Both D rings need to have your lead attached, not one dog per side,as this will slide the belt around etc and produce lopsided pulling... If you have leads with attachments at both ends, they clip straight to the D rings. If you have standard leads, you can work around this by using a carabiner to put the lead handles ( person end !) through and join this to the d rings. I've found that a standard 1 to 2 lead splitter ( from Pets at Home) is great for attaching the 2 collar clips to the D ring, this give a much larger "O" ring for attaching the two leads to. I also use a spring/shock absober thing from Pets at Home some times. If it helps I'll take a picture of the set up at home tonight and post it for you ? All the Best, Kevin Quote
Sarah Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 Ah yeah I see what you mean, the one i've ordered comes with a caribiner and a 5ft lead, just going to have kimba on it for now and look at hooking kaiser up when he's a bit bigger. Thanks for the advice, added to Rep Quote
siberian_wolf Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 great advice Kevin!!!!!!!!! When I used my control lead around my waist I just used to put all my weight to my feet and really dig my heel in so they couldn't drag me over Quote
Anne Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 The only thing Id say is keep it lower than your waist nearer the hips give you more stability Quote
Dunc Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 If he pulls you over my god he'll have to be going some lol Quote

siberian_wolf Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 On the subject of the same walking belt you have ordered Sarah, I don't suppose you have an idea of how I can find out what waist size I need, in inches? Quote
Sarah Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 I measured my waist site - the one i've ordered will expand by an extra 6 inches but you just give them your waist measurement when you ring and they sort it for you Quote
siberian_wolf Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Thanks Sarah! Both me and Jamie are looking at getting one each but will have to see. Let us know what it's like when you get it through and have tried it Quote
