We adopted our adorable but super overweight, 7-year-old Mayo 3.5 months ago. She was at a staggering 35 kg (77 lb) at the time, and we were told that wasn't even her heaviest -- the adoption agency saw a 42.8 kg (94 lb) in an old vet record! We put her on a sensible diet (grain-free; treats are rationed and zero table scraps) after and walked her daily. She was eating less but her energy level went up; her weight steadily dropped. Even people at the dog park were commenting on her obvious weight loss.
We went back to the vet last week and the vet thinks she's finally reached her healthy size, at 28 kg (61.6 lb)! She'll always have the loose skin around her neck and chest area from being so fat for so long, but we're very proud of what we've all achieved.
