  1. So we've had a husky in the family for years, she was originally my sisters dog and ended up with my dad due to my sister not being able to look after her. My dad managed well for a while then his health deteriorated and he passed away this year, long story short she's now been with my brother and sister in law since the end of January and generally has been okay (typical rule pushing as she had none towards the end with my dad). We took her to the vets etc and they said she needs spaying and we hoped she'd be calm down. She had a bad experience with a dog as a puppy so hasn't been socialised with them since really due to her unpredictability but she's always been odd with males. Since her spay she's been hyper aggressive to my brother unprovoked and we're unsure what to do? Has anyone got any tips, we don't want to rehome her as she's part of the family but we don't want to consider putting her down due to serious aggression randomly.
  2. Hello everyone ^^ I'm a first time Husky owner, and handler. I've had my darling boy Balto "Valz" for short, since he was a wee 8 week. Met both his parents whilst meeting the breeder (both well in standard, lines falling back to innisfree) . Over the time, raising him to be an angel of a pup now. I've noticed that his height and weight to be honest really hasn't changed at all after about 12 months old. He is now 16.5 months old. With the best that I could do, I measured his wither to floor as only 20 inches and his weight at about 17kg. I've already talked to his vet, and ruled out health concerns. We also have been feeding him high quality nursing mom and puppy food, along with daily chicken breasts and an egg for good measure. My question is, do you think he maxed out on his height and weight so young? We were intending to show him but because he is under the male standard by an inch, we may have to stop showing. It's not the end of the world, as he has so many other hobbies but it's a shame because I find him to be so a handsome boy . Any idea what may be the issue? Is there still a chance for that inch to come in somewhere? Even his weight worries me. Here are some photos of him. There is a photo of him as a puppy and a 3 photos of his recent trip, in a semi confirmation pose. Then there is a photo next to the Christmas tree around his 11 month old, BOW for puppy class. (Im pretty tall, so he will look extra short next to me)
  3. Hi All, We're looking at moving from the UK to NZ with our husky in 3/4 months time. He'll be three years old, but has separation anxiety and I was a bit naive in thinking that someone's in cargo with them but that isn't the case. We're now worried as we've managed to leave him on his own for 3-4 hours but not for 12 hours as will be needed for this kind of flight. The pet travel operators think it will be fine, but we're worried/nervous and wondered if anyone's attempted this before? We have a few months to work with a trainer on this, but wondered in the meantime if anyone had any advice? Cheers in advance!
  4. Hi everybody! I wanted to get others opinions on my husky puppies’ facial markings! I rescued him at 4 months old and he is now 6 months old! His mask around his eyes seems to be fading a bit but not as quickly as I anticipated. He also has spots going up his nose and I’m hoping they stay! Do you think the spots will stay into adulthood? Will the mask around his eyes completely fade? I’ve noticed his coat around his back and legs is starting to grow a bit of white under the chocolate. He also has super floppy ears and I haven’t noticed them starting to prick more with age, do you think they’ll stay floppy? I attached photos for reference, the first was when we first got him (4 months old), the second at 5 months, and the last at 6 months! Side note: His name is Oskar and I will love him regardless of how his physical features change over time. I am a first time Husky owner and am just curious!

My pup Dakota, she just turned 1 in January. We got her from a sled dog facility after her mother was bred to make more working dogs. Sadly her and her brother had been the runts... but now she's with us and loves belly rubs/ playing all day outside and in daycare with other pups!

  18. If anyone remembers me you may be reminded that I've been on this site for a very long time without owning a husky... But guess who has one now!!?? This girl! -Happy dance!!!- My pup, Arcanine (Arcie for short) is 3 months old. I will be getting him sometime after 5PM today. What should I do when I take him home? He needs a bath, he was kept outdoors and is a smelly baby. ): Should I wait later in the day to give him one and show the home first or would it be okay? I am going to show him where to potty, and associate him with the crate by giving him treats. I'm going to fill up a Kong with peanut butter and freeze it so he will be busy in his crate for a while. I'm putting it in my room, will it be okay that he sees me sleep and get up in the middle of the night? I will be waking him up every three/four hours for potty. Im going to keep the food bowl out in the open. Some people do not like that but I have too busy of a schedule to put him on a feeding schedule. If things prove that he needs to be put on a feeding schedule I will. I have three cats, I will slowly introduce. I will pet my cats and set them on my lap to show they're family. Phew, anything else?? Sorry if it's a lot! Here's a picture of my sweet boy.
  19. Our two girls are currently 30 lbs. and 28 lbs. at exactly 4 months today , They are twin girls, and active, to the point where they wear all 5 of us out daily! They are so smart, from opening their pen to opening their cage, hiding toys, etc... So far they are not digging too many holes, but we find them chewing on every branch, every board, and each other at times! They are fed every morning and every evening, they love their water, but they love to run more than anything! We use a body harness as we are not big fans of collars and chokers, Everywhere they go they are making new friends and meeting people continuously! I think my wife enjoys that too much, a 2 hour walk usually takes 4 hours plus with the socializing! They are identical and adorable, very friendly and love to kiss! They were added to the family to help me stay occupied while dealing with some health issues, and they do occupy my time! Our newest endeavor is Ice cube hockey, but they are too fast and ice melts too soon, thank goodness the trays are full ! Looking for advice on training, feeding and care! I have always had Black Labs, but the addition of these girls has been life changing, even though they have angry markings and colour, they are so gentle and loving! Looking forward to hearing advice and stories! Rob
  20. so I took my 9 week old puppy to the vet today to check for glaucoma and cataracts and he said that the puppy doesn't have either one which is good BUT he is (could be) blind he took his finger super close to his eye and the puppy didn't blink he didn't even react to the movement of the vets finger and he has a tenancy to bump into the wall which he did at the vets office so now I'm super worried about my baby boy I have to take him to ohio Monday morning for more tests he plays with my other puppy just fine so it seems he can get around my house good yea he does bump into the wall or something once in a while but I don't know if he is blind I just hope I can take good care of him.. does any one on here have a blind husky? if so is it hard taking care of him/her?

  22. my husky is almost 4 years old now and we have been having some serious issues with him marking in our house recently. my husband also thinks that he has respect issues towards me because it only happens when i am home. for example when i went to take a shower today, my husband came home for his lunch break and noticed that dan had marked in 2 places. he is also really bad about getting in my face and panting and whining at me. i always take it as he needs to go outside and potty, but recently he will do it right after i bring him inside so I'm thinking something else is bothering him and i don't know what it could be. i work part time and i am home with him a lot, he gets tons of attention and is spoiled rotten, i take him to the dog park a few times a week to get him exercise and to play with other dogs. my husband and i are just worried because we have a baby on the way and i am afraid we won't be able to give dan the attention that he needs. has anyone dealt with this sort of behavior before or does anyone have suggestions on how to fix it? any suggestions would be very appreciated.

  24. Hi everyone!! I am new to this site, this is my first post I have always LOVED huskies - ever since I was a baby. My parents had a black & white husky since before I was born, and I spoke my first word "dog" while looking at his beautiful face. Now, many years later (and a happy dog home that has welcomed many breeds and rescues) we are bringing another husky into our lives, and I am over the moon. My family has picked out this beautiful baby girl (named Lucy), I think she is just stunning. It will be about another month before we can take her home, and I haven't got to meet her yet but my brother and mom have sent me these photos. I wanted to share this because I am so excited - but also because I've never seen colors like hers before and wanted to know if anyone else has had a puppy with similar colors/markings? I am wondering if she is red, sable, or maybe something else? Just curious to see what other people think!! PS: Here mom is light red and white, and her dad is black and white.
  25. Hi, My name is Stuart, myself and the family are the new owners of our first Siberian Husky. We did lots of homework on the breed before we bought one but have had a few issues. She is now 11 weeks old. We have had her since she was 8 weeks. She is KC registered and came with all the health check forms and details (including stamps) of initial vaccinations, flea and worm treatment. We got her to the vets 1 day after and she has a good look over her. All clear at this stage. The loose stools lasted longer than the few days you would expect from a new environment so after a week she went into chicken and rice (boiled). Still no change after 3-4 days so we moved to adding a probiotic paste to her chicken. Again 3 days and no change so we got a stool analysed to find out she had giardia. During the treatment for Giardia she found roundworm in her stools. So the little girl has not had a great start. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the breeders or so thing she could have picked up after. Anyway she's in the mend now but thought it best to find a community to learn from as we go.
