  2. I'm just wondering about this... We have a 8-9 month old blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Lexi, and I've just started to notice that she has darker blue spots on her... Is this normal and just how her markings are, or should I be worried? Thank you for any advice xxx
  3. Good morning, all! Or at least it is here now that the 90.1" of snow we have gotten this winter is FINALLY starting to melt! Hooray for Spring! It has been a while since I posted, want to thank everyone for all of the awesome advice and suggestions a few months back on Aurora's house training and behavior with our Snow Bengal. It all has helped and Aurora is an amazing pup now! Big pup, that is. Something new for y'all.. Ever since we got her at 7 weeks, yes I know this is pretty young for a pup to leave their mother and this may be a reason, she is always protective/aggressive with her food.. She has never bit anyone, but she growls very loud and stuffs her face into her food so you cannot get to it. Recently, I feel it is getting worse. Every day when I feed her, I pet her to let her know I am there and not a threat to her eating and she always growls and gets defensive. Last night as a snack, I put some veggies in her food bowl. As I was petting her, she jolted at me. Did not bite, but I pulled away before she had the chance. I took her food away and she wasn't upset when I grabbed it, it seems she only gets upset when I am touching her. So as she was snacking last night, I sat on the floor with her and put an oven mitt on, just in case, and rubbed her entire body gently. She growled the entire time but did not try to bite. What can I do about this? She is now 6 months old and in the future she will be around children, I don't want her to ever hurt anyone and I also do not want her to be uncomfortable to eat around other people. She also is very defensive of her water when other dogs are around (I NEVER feed her around another dog, that would be too stressful for her) Thanks everyone! I look forward to hearing your responses.
  4. She's such a big baby, and she's only 1 :') God knows how big she's gonna be when she's become an adult.
  5. Hey guys, new here. I bought my beautiful new puppy Nyx 3 weeks ago and it has all been great. There has been one thing on my mind though. She was advertised as a Siberian Husky, despite not looking much like one to me. Some have since asked if she was a husky without prompting making me confused as I never really believed she was one. I've been through lists of dog breeds and have not been able to find one she resembles except the odd collie, mostly black Huskies and the very unlikely Karelian Bear Dog. I'm starting to thing she is a mix breed. I'd love to know what breed she is and would be really grateful if you could help me find it out. She's 10 weeks in the latest picture. Sorry about all the pictures.
  6. Hello everyone! So, Aurora is now 4 1/2 months old. Ever since we picked her up at 7 weeks, she has been exposed to our Snow Bengal cat, Nova. Nova also has been exposed to dogs, she is a year and a half years old and grew up with two Pomeranians. Aurora isn't mean or aggressive towards her, BUT she plays a little too rough and bites Nova's neck and doesn't understand she could hurt her. Nova doesn't typically fight back unless she is trying to sleep and is annoyed with Aurora's nipping and hitting.. Any advice on how to get Aurora to play nicer with her? I know since she's a puppy she will just want to play, but I'm not sure if there is any way I can get her to realize she's much bigger than Nova and needs to be easy with her. So that way they get along well when Aurora is an adult. Thanks y'all!
  7. Hello Husky Friends! My puppy, Nova, is 3 months old. Where we live right now is about 20 degrees with lots of wind. We set up a doggie door for her to go onto our back deck & we also set up a nice kennel for her to snuggle into. Right now, she is out there but not even inside the kennel, she is just on top of a towel by the doggie door curled up in a ball. Every time I drag her butt inside she goes right back out! She is a "Wooly" and it's not wet outside so there should be no issue there. But I am afraid it's too cold for her. My question is: IS IT TOO COLD FOR A 3 MONTH OLD HUSKY TO SLEEP OUTSIDE IN 20 DEGREE FARENHEIGHT? WHEN IS IT "TOO COLD" FOR HER? She does randomly come and lay inside but she is insisting on being outside right now and i'm worried! -Thanks a bunch for those of you who answer <3 new husky mommy Mel *photo attached because she is a BEAUTY.
  8. My now 4 month old female Siberian Husky is still going to the bathroom in the house.. This is what we have been doing for her: We crate her all night while we are sleeping, let her outside to go potty during the night if she is crying. Then let her out again as soon as we get up, after she eats, and before we leave for work. When we are gone for 8 hours a day, we have been gating her in our mud room where her crate is so she can move around. We put a pee pad down for her. What I have been seeing is she does not ever seem to try to hold her pee/poop, she just automatically goes to the pee pad or where the pee pad usually is, even if it isn't there she will go. She goes a lot during the day while we have her gated off in that room, but I feel like at this point she should be able to hold it? Or at least my husky years ago was able to. When she has free roam in the house while we are home, she still will go to that spot whenever she feels and go to the bathroom, she doesn't try to go outside. There HAS to be something we can do to teach her that pottying in the house is NOT acceptable and that she NEEDS to go outside to do that. Someone, ANYONE! Please help me out! I know that she can hold it, she seems to be too comfortable with going whenever she pleases instead of asking/waiting to go outside. Sincerely, A very frustrated, confused momma.
  9. Aurora got her picture taken with Santa on Saturday! Merry early Christmas, everyone!
  10. Hello everyone! My name is Jillian and I am a new husky owner (I grew up with a husky as a kid but I wasn't the one training/taking care of him of course!). My little furbaby's name is Aurora and she is red Siberian Husky. She is currently 14 weeks old and I have had her since she was 7 weeks. The first week was great, because she was quiet and not used to her surroundings. NOW, she is a comfortable little terror! Of course she is teething and I have asked so many people what the best way is to go about that, and have been told to "wait it out and tell her NO".. Not working out too well! She doesn't nip at me or my boyfriend all that much anymore, but when visitors come over she gets very excited and it's almost as if she really can't help herself. Any advice on this? She also still has accidents in the house, I know we have to keep up with her and let her out often but I am wondering if anyone has any tricks to getting her to "ask" to go outside instead of just do it whenever she feels? I have plenty of other questions, but I will start out with those! Thanks everyone in advance! Aurora The Siberian (on Instagram as "snowbengalnova")
  11. Hello There Husky Owner Friends!! My name is Melanie and my boyfriend & I recently adopted a puppy named Nova. She is a crazy little thing. I will attach some photos. I started reading the forums on this site because of her teething (biting) & just other fun facts. It looks like most of you are in the UK!! Oh well. I like this site a lot so far!!!
  12. Hi everyone, this is my first post. I have a 6 month old puppy that I have had since he was 10 weeks old. He is such as lovely dog (although we did have a little bit of trouble with runny poo's for a while) He is pure white and has blue eyes. He is named after my favorite TV series, The Game of Thrones! He is my very own pure white Direwolf! Here are a few photos of him from 3-4 weeks old, through to his current age 6 months. Hope you like. *Edit, here are the pics! at 3-4 weeks old! when I first touched him 9-10 weeks old! When I got him (First time in my garden) at 12 weeks? I think, training him to (poo/wee) outside blues eyes! what he looks like now (today) hes nearly 6 months and he looks almost fully grown! (But there is still lots of growth yet!)
  13. Lexi is about 11-12 weeks now and I've just started (trying) to take her out for walks. Problem is she doesn't walk... She sits there and just looks at me as if to say "You expect me to walk?", I've tried everything, I've dangled treats infront of her and she runs to get them, but then just runs back to where she came from when I try to move forward. I've tried calling to her to come to me, but she doesn't do that. Just sits there and looks at me. I've tried training her in the garden before taking her outside, and that didn't work either. I tried attaching her to Freya with a twin-lead thing, and she hated that. She just got dragged around by Freya and kept trying to bite the lead, growling and stuff. Any suggestions? ;/
  14. Hello, I love my puppy but he loves biting everything. He is 8 weeks and I guess that's normal. He bites EVERYTHING!! Especially me. When we are playing I put my hands and fingers in his mouth. If it hurts I will yelp and he loosens up "sometimes." Sometimes I think he finds it funny because he will bite harder and it looks like he is laughing. When I am praising him and rubbing him and speaking softly to him, he gently bites my fingers and hands. He is so gentle at that time. This dog is awfully smart. He loves to bite, he is eating my slippers, T-shirt, he is even biting his wire crate....good luck with that! I want it to subside before he gets older. He is 8 weeks. I don't want him biting other people...that is absolutely not acceptable. Lastly, I read that putting peanut butter or other foods on your finger will help in subsiding his need bite. Instead he will begin to lick your hands and fingers.....Any thoughts on how to stop or lessen the biting?
  15. Meet Lexi! My brother's new blue staffie puppy ^_^ It's safe to say that Freya loves her new sister... She won't leave her alone, though Lexi doesn't seem as interested in her as she is in Holly haha! Holly being the brood she is, babies Lexi but usually isn't interested in Freya or Lexi's little antics ;') Poor girl, her life was so peaceful before we brought the two youngsters into the family </3 Problem is with the cat... Anyone got any advice for making sure the puppy doesn't accidentally kill the kitten? :') They play together, but sometimes Lexi grabs his tail a little too roughly, and Felix (9 week old cat), claws/hisses at him and runs under the sofa or something... But then he comes back towards her and pounces and paws at her... He's such a tease.
  16. I would like to start Duke on a raw diet soon. He is currently eating a grain free kibble. I've seen various methods on introduction and wanted to get your input. One method is to start out slowly and build up to full meals, while the other is to fast 48-72 hours and then dive straight in to full meals. Also, is 2.5% of the expected ADULT weight appropriate for a puppy to maintain? He is currently 52 lbs and I expect him to be a big boy like his dad, who is 90-100 lbs of pure muscle.
  17. Our new addition!!! She's so sweet it's unbelievable <3 3 weeks are going to literally kill me. SAY HELLO TO A NEW ADDITION TO OUR PACK ^_^ My brother asked for a dog, and he gets the parents permission straight away... Kinda irked about how easy that was for him, whilst I had to literally cry to get my first dog, but I CAN'T HELP BUT NOT CARE WHEN SHE'S THIS CUTE<3 My brother hasn't decided on a name for her yet, but I mentioned 'Blue' and he's leaning towards it... I think it'll end up being 'Blue' Anyways, she's a blue Staffie, and there's 3 weeks left to wait until she's home with us!! I can't wait for her to meet Holly&Freya<3
  18. My husky is almost 4 months old (born March 2nd, 2014) and he likes to bite my feet, legs, hands, arms for attention and the longer I take to respond the harder the bites get. I've tried ignoring him and turning my body 45 degrees away from him until he stops but that just makes him bite harder, so I remove myself and leave the room but that doesn't have an effect on when I see him the next time because he keeps on biting. I've tried yelling No! that doesn't even affect him. I've tried holding his snout and yelling No! and not letting go until he calms down, that just gets him to come back and bites me harder as soon as I let go (he thinks I'm playing with him? idk). I even tried pulling him away every time he bites, he just comes back and bites harder. I don't know what to do, and it's starting to get painful as he's teething he bites harder than usual. He bites on my clothes all the time, and when I try pulling them out of his mouth yelling No! he tugs on them harder. I tried yelping too, doesn't affect him. Is this normal? How should I handle it? and how long until I can see results and behavioral change? Also, I ran into a lady who had a german shepard for 7 years and she told me that it's normal for puppies to be like that and that they grow out of it on their own before they reach one year. Is that true?
  19. Hi, I have a husky dog and he is about 7 months old. From about 3 months ago, a red circles started to appear around his eyes and mouth. I went to many doctors and they couldn't cure him. Sometimes he start to bleed from this red circles. Furthermore, he is not eating very well and he is not playing as much as he was. I also have another husky dog that lives with him but she didn't caught this disease from him. You can find some images for his face in the attach files. Can anyone diagnose this disease ? What is the best cure for that ? Can anyone please help me ? Waiting your replies as soon as possible Regards, Ahmed
  20. Hello.... a few months ago I was posting that our puppy Anaya (who is 11 months now) wasn't really shedding much - well much has changed... PLEASE someone tell me the first shed is the worst. This is insane. I read the shed's last about 2-3 weeks... we are going on about a month.. and it has just started coming out clumpy. I just through out my 5X7 area rug because I gave up trying to vacuum it 3'x a day. I'm grooming her repeatedly throughout the day, 2-3 times... about 20 min. a session but it just keeps coming out. Our backyard looks like a cotton field. Is there some kind of secret to this.. would giving her a bath help.. is there no end to the fur? thanks.. Kris
  21. Hey there. I am the proud owner of a 5 month old, female, Siberian Husky and her name is Freya. My problems are that Freya is very bad when walking on a leash. She pulls, no matter how much I try and correct her and she tries to play fight with my other, almost 5 year old, dog. She's a Labrador and her name is Holly. I've had Holly since she was born (meaning I picked her out when she was tiny and took her home when she was old enough, just to be clear), and she walks beautifully on the lead. I let Freya off the leash once we get to the big field at my local park, along with Holly. Thing is, Holly comes back but Freya follows Holly. If you tell her to "come here" odds are she won't. She'll look at you and show she's heard you, but she won't come to you unless Holly does. Holly does, but occasionally she becomes lost in her own world and ignores me... I've taught Freya the "come" command and even whistle commands, but she still ignores me around the other dog. I've tried everything in terms of correction with Freya. I don't want to have to keep her on a leash when the other dog is free to run as she pleases, but it's coming to that. Freya doesn't have a lot of concentration when the other dog is around, and if I take Holly out without her she will scream until we come home. She's incredibly needy when it comes to being with people, she hates to be left alone and if she is she will cry the place down, irritating my parents and brother. Can anyone help me please?!?! I've attached a photo of Freya, sitting at the bathroom door when I'm about to put her in a bath... She hates those :') - Wolfee!

    Bandit

Bandit got a bath, very happy to be home, long process to heal, shedding like crazy, but upset he has to be isolated a bit from the other puppy.

  23. Hi, I recently got 2 husky puppies from the same litter, they are 8 weeks old and we started to crate train the first day we got them, the girl is fine and only cries when she needs the toilet but the boy will sit in his crate and cry and howl for around 30 to 45 minutes. he sounds like he is in distress, does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong?
