  1. Its amazing how they teach you so much in so little time, and a life time of being human can never measure up to what you become as a person after having a dog in your life, even if it is for the shortest time. thoughts are with you
  2. awwwww, i'm really sorry to hear that wish words could make you feel better, but it's time (cliche i know) that will help ease the pain,
  3. thanks to all of you for your kind messages. Those poems are awesome, and they really do make me feel like he is there waiting for us, i've only just bought ymself to be able to come back on the site. Hubby and I were discussing getting another husky now, he or she will never be Ice, but we feel theres too much love to keep for ourselves, again, thanks all, it's good to knwo there is a support network out there, it's hard when you talk to firends who havn't ever had a dog and don't realise the bond and relationshipo which develops with them

    Ice :(

hey all, after all my escapades with Ice, we lost him a couple of weeks ago, he was only 1 1/2years old and gave me the best year i had with him, in my life. he suffocated after rummaging the bin and finding a ready roast chicken bag, doing what he loved best, he licked out the jiuces from the bottom of the bag and used up all his oxygen, he passed out, and then because the bag didn't come off, he died, i was only out for an hour and came back to find him. it's been realy hard, keep wishing i hadn't left him, miss him soo much he bougth so much joy to us, and everybody he met, was a complete nutter and you could make him do anything for a treat, life just feels so empty now
  5. hey all, just another update! lol, just feel like i have to share this with you guys, but the wound got really bad and started seeping and i could then begin to smell the infection which then wasn't nice, but took him to the vets (again) and we have to hold him down to clean him, and bless him he proper squealed and growled, but we got him clean and antibacteriald (if that is a word) up, and then he was a lot more relaxed when he was at home, and slept the night through! lol, my friend just told me it's like having a baby! 3 buster colars later seeing as the 2nd one wasn't big enough either to stop him gettin to it! but hopefully stitches out on saturday and he should be back to normal
  6. no it's not big enough, thats what i was thinking, surely it shouldn't allow him access right? hmmmm, i'll call the vets now and get a bigger one! i was just wondering, if he is licking, will it make the healing process worse? as he's not attacking the stiches but it just seems he calms himself down and then sleeps afterwards, he's a really clean doggy and hates being dirty, so i cleaned his pee pee( sorry, wanted to be as polite as possible lol) and he was happy with that i slept downstairs last night so feel like in sleep walking today! lol
  7. hey guys, just an update, huby went to the vets today and got ice some pain relief which has helped. he's still seems really uncomfortable, i just feel really bad when he looks at me with those eyes and sya" why did you do this to me??" lol, but i feel soo out of order to him! and the 10 days he has to keep the buster collar on is just dragging!! it feels like ages before he can be himself again, he's not really wanting comfort from me for some reason, keeps going to hubby! not sure if it's a man thing! hopefully the week will fly by and this ordeal wll be over with!
  8. hi no he didn't give meds, but he's wearing a buster coller but ice has figured out how to get around it! a bit too clever for hi own good sometimes lol
  9. hi guys, had ice castrated ysterday and he was feeling really woozy, today he keeps jumping around in circles whining, i've tried to call my emergency vets but had no luck, i just wanted some advice as to what i can do to make it easier for him, someone told me half a paracetamol might help relieve his pain, where someone else had said to use suedo creme, he keeps trying to get access to his scrotum area and wanting to lick, so i keep stopping him from doing that, but he got up to get water and then just jumps in circles crying, i really don't know what to do, has anyone got any advice?? i've also been told to use my husbands old boxer shorts on him so that he cant lick it through the night whilst i'm sleeping (as i had a sleep less night last night with him i think i might be flat out tonight) thanks in advance for your responses
  10. hey guys, so we met outside and Rocky at first was a little "whos in my town" but they were fine, and they kept trying to "hump" each other but i'm not sure if it's a dominance thing. but they seem ok, don't want to have a minutes rest they didnt' sleep last night because Ice slept in my room with me, and rocky slept in his usual spot on the landing, but they were up all night, i think due to the excitement of knowing there was another dog in the house, they did get a little bit rough, but i have a shaker which deters their attention, so it's going ok so far now they are both asleep so i can finally cath up with a nap too
  11. thanks guys, Ice is normally quite good with other dogs, he just wants to play and all the dogs locally are quite small, so i think the other owners get a bit scared of him, thanks for your tips, i will defo get them to meet outside and play to tire them out and then get them back inside the house, ohhh i'm so excited, i hope they get on, because then i can take him with me all the time
  12. Hi all, Hope you are all well i just wanted a bit of advice, i'm going to be taking Ice to my parents house tomorrow, and my brothers dog will also be there, now they have met once before when we first got Ice, in May, Ice was 5 months old at this point and my brothers dog was a year and half, they got on ok, and it wasn't a problem. However i just want to make sure i do it right again, and just wanted to know what would be the best way to re-introduce them, my brothers dog is half rottie and half american bulldog, he's a very placid dog and gets on with other dogs, but they are both boys and neither have been castrated yet, so i want to reduce any male testosterone which may get highly released when they meet. Would it be advisable to get them to meet in the park before taking them home? so they become friends? any ideas would be muchly appreciated.
  13. hey all, just to let you know, the RSPCA came round the other day to see us, and she said he was the healthiest husky she'd seen, she said he wasn't too fat or skinny and just right and said she had no quarms that he is well looked after and he's been really good in the house, and much prefers it, so thanks everyone for your support, its so nice to know i have some support, i love my husky tooooo mcuh to give him up you guys are awesome
  14. hi guys, quick update, i've been leaving Ice inside the house now, and touch wood, everythig is still intact whislt i've been out and clean i think he prefers to be indoors, he still howls but the neighbours don't hear it as much as its not too bad hopefully this should help with the noise control
  15. I also have been searching the internet for help, and came across the device that makes a high pitch sounds whenever ice makes a noice, do you think this would be a good idea?
  16. thanks all for your ideas and support. i did make a point of putting notes through everyones doors informing them when we got ice about the nature of his noise making, thing is i found out there is another dog, who barks a lot and i think they try and communicate, i have got him the kong toy thing, and he loves that, but will defo try the newspaper things and the frozen milk carton, those are awesome ideas! i always make sure he goes out for a walk before i'm about to leave him too so then he's tired and hopefully just sleeps! but it is normally during the day, at night time i'm amost always in, or he's with me if i'm out visiting friends, or he's in the house, thanks guys will defo try those and keep you updated with what happens, i know what you mean CherieB, it's so annoying that people don't understand the gift of a husky and will always think about themselfs rather than others.
  17. if it's during the day then he's in the garden and he has a kennel out there too, if it's in the evening then in the house and i leave the tv on for him, he's got a crate, but he's still a bit weary when i close the door, but (touch wood) he doesn't do any damage in the house, it's jst in the summer it was too hot in the house as i have a glass conservatory and it gets too hot, but because my cul-de-sac is new al the houses have very thin walls hey can still hear him when hes inside too.
  18. so i had the community police come around the other day, because ice howls when we're not at home! then they sent the RSPCA round! now it's normally only during the day for a couple of hours, seeing as i cant take him absolutely everywhere with me seeing as supermarkets won't allow him in! but anyway so i called the RSPCA as both Ice and i had gone out for a walk when they calle,d they've not called back, now i'm hoping they don't say they can take him away from me that would kill me, and the thing is the howling is during day time, it's not in the evening so not disturbing the peace so to say, admittidly it's loud, and he does have treats when hes alone, but he does it initially and then stops! but he's also still pooping on my carpet! tried everything! vinegar, washing powder, the doggy stuff that stops them from doing it in the same place again, so now we've decided to tile the area over:) then it doesn't matter coz it's easier to clean! thing is it's only ever through the night, even after going for a long walk after dinner and pooping in his usual spot in the garden! and he still keeps trying to hump people when they come in so i think we going to get him castrated too, he's really sticking his nose in peoples crotch and i know it's a hello thing, however he goes a bit too far sometimes! sorry to ramble on but i just needed to speak to husky people who understand! anything i can do to calm down the howling? and the pooing?and the humping?
  19. aww my ice has one too, it's sooo cute i'll post a pic shortly,
  20. hey all, i think he's amazing, however, i do think he is all same-ish in everything, i dont' always see him using different methods and it seems like he's rehibilitating the dogs but not really teaching the owners much? thats just my opinion and i do love his work and think he's an amazing person, i do however love the work of Victoria Stillwell, is every one familliar with her? i thnk her method are brilliant as she always has alternative methods as one glove doesn't always fit all so to speak, i do also enjoy watching dgo borstal too anything doggy is good for me
  21. i would defo say go for it! i wish i'd made that desicion earlier in my life, and now i swould still love to do it, it's a slower process for me having to learn everything with my day time job, but i am still trying to go for it myself, and you already have the background studies for it, DO IT!!! lol, don't live your life with "what ifs" at least try and say you put your all into it! i thought i was getting too old to do it, but then i thought, no im going to give it a go so i don't have regrets, i've joined the Siberian Husky Welfare Association here in the UK and am doing what i love most, working with dogs, my current line of work is a trainer (in Human resouces) but i've been told, dogs are easier than people to work with
  22. Hi all, hope you are well. i just had a quick question really, i wanted to take Ice to training classes as he wasnt taken as a pup, and now at 10 months old, although a well behaved dog, i thought it might just give me some more pointers, and hopefully he'll be able to socialise with a few other dogs, however, is it best to go to someone who has worked with huskys previously or would any reputable dog trainer have the knowledge? i'm not trying to undermine anybody here, but around where i live huskys are very rare and a lot of people i speak to when out on walks, have only ever seen them on TV! and i want someone who can understand the intelligence of the breed to work with him, as i don't want anything i've already done to be undone (if you get what i mean) and he's not a thick dog, he's very clever, as all huskys are, and i need someone who understands they only do things when they see theres something for them in it, do you get what i mean? so was wondering what everbodies thoughts are, i live in UK, in Ilford in Essex, so if anyone knows of anyone localy who is good, please let me know
  23. hey all, thanks so much for your information and advice, i will get onto that straight away!
  24. hey all, i was digusted by that, when we were looking for a dog too, we saw so many of those ads! its disgusting, they seem like they're asking all the same questions and when i asked if we could come see the pup they said they were in scotland too! i then said i was on business to scotland so could come meet the pup and they did everything they could to deter me! but i'm lucky, we found ice with a family who couldn't keep him anymore, but so many people fall victim to these scams it's a shame
  25. hi guys, hope you are all well, i need some help, Ice, my 10 month old sibe, has this spot in the house he likes to pee on, now i've tried everything, vinegar, washing up powder, carpet cleaners, everything, whenever i use shake n vac, he hates it and pees as soon as ive done the hoover, as much as i love him, i really don't want my house to smell of his pee for visitors as soon as they walk in! is there anything else i can do to stop him? hes otherwise toilet trained, and has his normal spots in the back garden, i don't think it's peeing as much as it is marking i suppose. he's not been castrated yet, we were thinking of doing it as he is now trying to smell everyone in thier "intimate"areas and then tries to show them his love by mounting them! wil the castration calm this behaviour? as when i castrated my last dog (half japanese akita half rottie) it made no difference to him! sorry about al the questions but it's beginning to bug me now and ruin my carpe! thanks in advance for your responses.
