  1. it seems like i've brought up a very important topic haha a lot of people are interested in recalling there siberian husky but so many of them seem to just give up and say "huskys can't recall and i don't want to risk it". i understand not wanting to "risk it" but if you train in a safe area away from cars you'll probably be fine and if you just give up, you will never know if it's possible. i'm very happy that there are so many different views on this topic.

    New Husky

i have a siberian husky and recently got a new born kitten and my approach was to let nature work itself out with you of course watching them. my cat has clawed my husky on the nose and has made it very clear to not mess with her. they now play together and live in harmony.
  3. i'll take all instructions about the E-collar i would like to hear whatever methods have worked for people. i am using SportDog camo 1 mile shock collar.
  4. wow what a great post Jeff&Duke, this is the exact instruction i need. it sums up my previous training with the shock collar and the results. probably the one thing i did wrong was i didnt let my pup get use to the collar and make it a positive comfortable thing for her. i'm going to do what your post suggests and have her toys, a long lead and my shock collar. i know her settings on the collar and i know how to use it. i really think that might work. if you could give me further instructions about how long this all took you, how old is your husky and when you started the training with her. thank you for your post.
  5. sorry man haha my internet was freaking out. thanks again for the help
  6. i am going to keep her on the 100ft lead like you all are saying though for probably a long time until i feel confident, that'll be the first step.
  7. ooooooo haha i thought you meant used for rescue. that would be SICK
  8. so it is possible!!! hahaha i will work hard. this is the first dog i've had from puppy stage so sadly within the first couple months (the most important) i was unaware of so many great training techniques. i feel like i am so much more knoledgeable about training and she is still a pup, only a little over a year so its possible to harness her recall. she very good with the pack, a little more timid and does listen to me in the pack so doesnt take lead from the other dogs but stil enjoys being near them.
  9. so your dog has to have reliable recall skills! if it qualifies to be a rescue dog.
  10. thank you for the support haha i did feel a little pushed but its fine i feel the way i do about things like the shock collar and have gotten in arguments about them. but i appreciate the advice. is there ANYONE that has a husky that can be off-lead at all times? you had a husky that was a rescue dog????
  11. i have another topic to bring up. huskys are obviously pack animals and a very effective way to keep your dog close when your off-lead is with another dog that has a 100% reliable recall (most likely another breed). this is actually the most effective way i can have my dog off-leash but its stupid cause i only have one dog and only can experience a dog pack when i'm with my girldfriends dogs. its pretty interesting how my husky will stay with me. THE PACK Alpha-me and my girlfriend Listeners-her dogs Followers-my husky
  12. i was wondering if there was canned TOTW ill try and get some.
  13. ill check that out thank ou
  14. i love the pics haha that is probably what i'll end up having to do. i love how passionate you guys are about huskys haha its great to hear.
  15. well its too frickin late to get a different dog hahaha i love my dog i just would love to have her off-leash and thats why i started this post in the first place. i wouldnt ever put my dog in danger, but a husky needs to see the world, they have that exploration instinct that gets them to run off in the first place because of it. i plan on showing my dog a lot of different enviorments and probably none of them will be enclosed so i am trying for a reliable recall.
