  1. I’ve not seen any decent fish over here in Calgary. It’s all brought in ready prepped to sell in the stores. He has ground salmon every couple of days with his ground meats, I make a point of him having about 200g worth Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners
  2. This was a little hard to capture, this sore has shown up on shiloh's face near his mouth. Hes been raw fed since we got him 8 weeks ago, pre made so hes getting a balance of meat, bone & organ (80/10/10). could it be the usual zinc issue? I've started him on 1tsp of kelp today & I'm applying sudocrem to it daily. Thoughts people please? thanks. Sent from my [device_name] using http://Husky Owners mobile app
  3. The lady who rescued him from his owner and surrendered him has contacted me this week. A whole year this boy spent in a yard in his own mess. In 105 degree heat or pissing down rain. No shelter and a concrete slab as a bed. Sometimes they threw food at him and sometimes not!! He drank dirty rainwater. His name was bear, however he was never called by it as he barely had any human contact, apart from the lady next door through a chain link fence. One day he cleared the fence and was attacked by a mastiff cross that near ripped his nose apart ( stitches still dissolving) The lady rushed him to the vet and told them his name was Shiloh and gave his owner money to buy him to surrender. I've cried reading her messages, how this boy is so sweet and loving and still trusting is beyond me. My boys adore him, and in return he adores them. He's learning to walk to heel, very well too. And he's learning basic commands. I've toilet trained him and he follows me everywhere. I'm just waiting for his chip papers and vet records and he's all ours [emoji170] Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners
  4. thanks, he's a work in progress. today with the aide of cheese we walked past people waiting for a bus while walking in thick snow. Sent from my [device_name] using http://Husky Owners mobile app
  5. he's been with us just over 2 weeks. not all finalised yet as we've had awful snow in calgary..I'm expecting we'll finalise sometime next week. He's hard work, but he's coming on nicely. I've toilet trained him, he's able to pass people when he's on leash a lot better & we're working on passing other dogs.......he's my boy & he's defiantly staying with us. 6. UPDATE......He did it!!!! He walked past people without bothering. I used boiled chicken, boy he will jump through hoops for that stuff. Today he walked a whole block with a dog walking the opposite side of the road. He whined a little, but I held his attention with the chicken in my hand and saying "with me". But to top it off, I got him sitting while a lady and her dog passed us. He tried to jump at me once, but instantly sat when I held my fist near his nose with the chicken in. He's improving a little every day, Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners
  7. great tips, thanks everyone. I got some freeze dried chicken treats and peanut butter and banana ones, I used these yesterday to get him off the sofa and using his bed. he's so intelligent & picked that up so quickly, although I'm sure we've not totally cracked that one. I wanted to keep the harness for long line running as he walks pretty good as is, I've got a basic walking harness that I can put on him and use to hold him if I need to use it that way. I know he only wants to play, but an owner with a small dog must be very intimidated by him lol Sent from my [device_name] using http://Husky Owners mobile app
  8. Hi all. This is Shiloh, he's roughly a yr old and we adopted him last week. he's doing good on leash, I've taught him sit and lie down. working on OFF the sofa, tough but he's getting there. I could do with some guidance when it comes to approaching people in the street, especially if they have a dog or have a dog on the opposite side of the street. He literally hops on his hind legs, jumps and screeches. people are avoiding us and I can barely pull him down and take control. I'm using lots of positive reinforcement, constantly praising him and using treats when he does what I ask, but I don't know where to start with this one. Thank you. 9. Thanks everyone. We did think about changing his name, but my kids thinks he suits it. I guess we'll see. first thing out of son's mouth this morning was " One day closer mum" Sent from my [device_name] using http://Husky Owners mobile app
  10. This sweet boy is about 1 and a half and will be coming to us for a 2 week trial this week before we finalise his adoption. The rescue has brought him from California to Canada this week as there are so many being surrendered there. He has been left in a back yard, which was disgusting. He was drinking dirty water and basically walking round in his own mess. The neighbour bought him from his owner purposely to surrender him so that he had a chance of a better life. We will need to housetrain him and teach him some manners , he barely responds to his name. But I am so looking forward to adding this boy to our family I've spent the weekend in -15 conditions in a foot of snow fixing fences and getting our yard ready to take him in. 11. thanks, I think I'm just going to swap him straight over. I went out and bought chicken necks with backs, gizzards, liver, chicken quarters with kidneys attached wings and mince. just need to get hold of some hearts and kidneys. We've a Chinese store that sells frozen mackerel by the box load too. My first husky loved her fish like an ice lolly [emoji87] I've done lots of reading this week Sent from my [device_name] using http://Husky Owners mobile app
  12. So after waiting 5 years to settle here in Canada, we're finally going to a husky rescue to adopt a furbaby. He's currently being transported from California to Alberta as they have a huge number being surrendered daily. Hopefully he will be with is very soon on a two week trial before we finalise the adoption. Assuming he's being fed kibble at present how long shall I wait to introduce him onto raw food? shall I do it gradually or just straight swap. I'm predicting a runny tummy anyway while he settles in with us, wow I'm a newbie at this all over again. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Also is it 2% adult weight per day? Thank you.
