Hello! I hope you all are doing well.
I am a first time dog owner who adopted her little love in September of 2015. Back then, I was looking for a companion as I live in a rural area, but I figured the selection I had to choose from was quite limited. Reason being is that I've suffered from asthma and severe allergies my entire life so I was looking at breeds that were said to be more hypoallergenic... until I met Anubis.
On his kennel read a sign that said he was not ready to be adopted out yet so our initial introduction had little expectation other than for me to dote upon him with affection as I often do with the inhabitants of my local shelter. An employee working there saw me focused in on him and eventually made the offer to take us back to a room where I could view him better. Unable to resist, I agreed. This led to two interesting discoveries; one, that sign on his kennel wasn't supposed to be there. It was to be taken off that morning only to have been forgotten about entirely until the tail end of the day. Two, he wasn't triggering my allergies. At all. Even my eczema didn't act up when he licked me which always happens without fail. I was stunned. What happened from there occurred rather fast-- I had a connection to this dog who seemed perfect for me and I was afraid to let the opportunity pass me by.
Perhaps I should've waited being as tediously planning things out is the sort of person I typically am, though I'm now glad that I didn't. Ever since then we've been the best of pals and he's enriched my life in ways that I can't even put into words. Anubis still remains one of the only dogs I've been immune to--one of the best hiking partners as well. He's a husky mix that's fired up my passion for this tenacious breed altogether, leading me to this beautiful forum.
