Insight from veteran husky parents greatly appreciated!
chelseafan replied to Elodie's topic in Training & Behaviour
Comet has been through a lot but it sounds as tho you’ve come a long way with him, I commend your commitment to his training. Dog safety gates are a must imo particularly with you having cats, they need a safe space, some husky’s are ok with cats, mine wouldn’t be [emoji849] but vigilance is key because it’s been known for them to be ok for months even years and then one day they’ve killed the cat. I hope you find a solution. Sorry to hear about the kitten. In order for the relationship between your husband and comet to strengthen I’d say some bonding is needed, play time or just hubby being a -

Hi, congrats on your new editions [emoji3] sadly there are lots of huskies in rescues, they look gorgeous but require lots of patience, exercise, training and of course love and some people realise, too late, they’ve bitten off more than they can chew. Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

Beautiful [emoji1] he looks quite big, I would be walking past there all the time! Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners

I like the idea of a husky driven chariot, you could put bow ties on, if they’re boys, and ribbons if female, they could walk down the aisle with you [emoji240][emoji240][emoji240] Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

He turned up and pleaded not guilty, court date is 25th Nov, was hoping he’d plead guilty to avoid court [emoji849] Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners -
Looks nasty [emoji53] how’s your ankle doing? They can take a long time to get better, Phil’s sister fell last Xmas and it’s still not right now. [emoji853] Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

Luna sounds like the exception to the rule, they can be like that for years and then one day they just go. We take ours with us on days out, they have 3 hours + a day walking plus off lead runs and still Cai would be gone in a heartbeat if he was able to escape and Luka blue shows no interest in escaping but he would follow Cai. When Cai’s on his walks all he does is look for prey, he just wants to hunt! Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners

I always checked them before we went out and I thought it was secure, I don’t know how he did it but he did, Luka blue never bothered to try. I think it depends on the personality of your dog, Cai can get out of anything, he used to open the safety gates! Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners

I’m now working on leaving the bandage on = short walk, giving the command ‘leave it’ and I’ve left the room, started with 5 mins and I’m now up to 50 mins and the bandage is still on, every time I come back in the room I say good boy and he’s out for a 10 min walk. It beats putting bandages back on all the time, such a clever dog tho, he learns fast. Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

Took Cai to the vet this morning for a dressing change, even tho I changed it 14 times since Friday, he managed to get them off even with a muzzle on [emoji33] vet said it’s healing nicely but needs to stay on for another 3 days so she put a cone on him and zip tied it, within 20 mins of being home he managed to get it off.......should have named him Houdini [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners mobile app

Update on court, he didn’t turn up at the magistrates so they’ve set it for the 25th and if he’s a no show again they’ll be a warrant out for his arrest, I’m almost hoping he doesn’t turn up. Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners -
Awww, what a relief for you and to have Lunar back to more or less himself you must feel very happy. You are dedicated to your furbies. Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

Cai got out of his Julius k9 twice, and he did it so fast, he backed out of it, not secure enough for husky’s imo, I know plenty of people use them, I just don’t think it’s worth the risk if you have a runner! Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

Anyone from the UK use a Scooter
chelseafan replied to Onceuponadime's topic in Training & Behaviour
You can run them on a scooter on the beach, never on tarmac as it can burn their pads, when I was looking to get insurance for my 2 the general consensus was to get public liability insurance just for having sibes, in case they manage to escape and because they just run regardless of what’s in their way, car accidents have been caused, livestock killed and we as owners are liable. The forestry commission operate a permit system but they’ll insist on a substantial amount of third party insurance cover for working your dogs. Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners -

Stella Update :( | Dog Park attack
chelseafan replied to StellaTheDogSpaceOddity's topic in Husky General
There’s so many off lead dogs walking where I take mine and the owners don’t ever seem to think they’re the ones in the wrong for allowing their dogs to be offlead, you can’t blame the dogs they’re just being dogs, it’s the owners who need telling. Cai’s been bitten a few times and only 3 weeks ago a spaniel ran down his drive and ran at Cai snarling and growling and jumped on Cai’s back and bit him, totally ignoring his owner shouting his name to come back........nightmare [emoji33] Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners -
I think harnesses are better as my 2 pull a lot, if you use just a collar and she pulls she’s taking all of the strain around her neck. Training training and more training for everything! Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners

Out of curiosity, which DNA brand did you use? It’s good to know what mix he is, my 2 were clingy when they were very young puppies but I started to leave them in the kitchen with a safety gate at the door and I’d go out of the front door, and they could see me leaving, at first I’d leave for 5 mins and I did this a few times a day and then I’d leave for 10 mins and so on, it helps with separation anxiety. If you do this he’s less likely to be clingy and it’ll be normal for him to be alone whilst you’re out. Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners

Well 5 hours on, 3 bandage changes and 2 socks later [emoji33] he really is an expert at taking it off. Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners

I know [emoji23] he’s been really good, they gave me an iv fluid bag to put over the bandage and he’s left it alone.......for now [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners

Phil took Cai and Luka blue for a walk last night and Cai’s paw was bleeding, I cleaned it up and booked a vets appt, turns out he had a cut an inch wide and deep in between his pads and he had to have stitches. Picked him up earlier and he’s his usual nutty self Sent from my iPad using Husky Owners mobile app
