so Zara has this annoying habit of jumping on the back door whenever someone goes near it. and specially at food time. now the door is glass and i am afraid that if she keeps it up she will break it. and now she has Phoenix doing it as well. not to mention when they play they sometimes crash into it. any ideas on how i can stop them both... i was thinking of somehow making a barrier between the door and them, but it isn't really possible. i tell them to sit and don't open the door till they do but sometimes they are just so excited that they don't listen. is this just a case of practice?

Ian Dunbar has a nice article on training his own malamute in Dogs Today (UK). It is actually a reprint of his monthly column in The American Kennel Gazette. The way he achieves a partnership with his dog is touching and really encouraging. Do you read Dogs Today or any other dog magazine regularly? Which of Ian's books would you recommend? cheers -jaafar

Hi guys, Loki is now 6months old I got a ezydog harness for him 4 weeks ago and it snapped but before it snapped I was talking to another husky owner who says someone told him not to put harness on them when they are young. I am wondering if this is true before I buy another. Just when loki pulls he is choking himself he is good on lead its just when he is excited or when the kids are walking with us.

Ice is just over 10 weeks now, we've had him for 3 weeks, his toilet training has come along very well, he's learnt sit, down, paw, off (to an extent on that one), he responds to his name and today he's been learning stay while been tempted with some juicy chunks of chicken and amazed me with his patience, we even managed to back right out of the kitchen for a second or two without him moving I think he enjoys the big praise and treats, it amazes me a pup of his age has that level of intelligence. At feeding time he automatically sits and gives you his paw. It can't stay this easy can it? after all the reasearch i did i expected the worst, when does the rebelli…

Hey people! I've been busy with Obi lately. Mainly because he's the first dog(First ever for that matter) that I'll train. He's been responding on Recall already. 75% of the time he'll come. He's used to having a collar. Problem is, when I have the Lead/Line already, he pulls back. Any idea how can I train him to not react bad on his line?? Thanks guys

Hey everyone, hope all is well . Ocea and Honey sleep in with me at night, so Ocea just uses the puppy floor pee pads during the night and whenever she is inside in the day for an extended period of time. In the last few weeks we have encountered a small, but messy problem with her bathroom breaks. She's taken up peeing/pooping on anything rectangular. So all the door mats outside have at some stage been peed/pooped on and if someones not around to get to her in time while she's inside, she will also go on mats that are inside. She has gone on a couch a couple of times also that has square cushions. I have just been telling her NO, then put…

Hello all, When we first got missy we gave her the run of the house which was a mistake. She used to run straight to the kids play room and grab the first toy she could find then hide under the dining room table. It may be a bit harder for her to do that because she weighs twice as much now, but before we give her more freedom we wanted to ask about ways to address and fix this issue. She is still having a little trouble going outside but we want to try to train her a bit more to teach her to signal us via bark or scratching or belll that she needs to go outside. Its very tiresome having to watch her , our 4 year old, our 13 month old to make sure she isn't s…

During training last night we talked about the ermergency recall and how important it is. We have to think of what our word is going to be and start working on it this week. (Info following if you are not familiar with the idea) Everything I have found online for suggestions has silly words that I am ready to yell out in the middle of trouble. I was wondering what other people use for their recall word. Right now my top pic is JACKPOT, but not sure if it is the winner yet. Thanks a bunch. Emergency Recall vs "Come" Just remember there is a difference between this and just teaching him to come to you when you call his name or say “come…

cani-cross is of course racing or running with dogs and because siberians are top runners then they are the number one choice.i have been running and racing in their events over the last few years and would like to know if any members race or would like to start training for the season that starts around september.i run with two sibes and that is the hardest class but it can be done with one dog if you are fairly fit,all types of dogs race and not all of the runners are serious about winning, you can check out the site at cani-cross.co.uk for info,i have posted a few photos in the gallery of me training on a four mile route that is more than enough for the dogs at this ti…

It is getting very worrying at times even with me he does it. He has loads of toys and when he does it I show him his toy but he still does it. Will he grow out of this I keep sayin its puppy biting which I hope it is. Its just the biting is really sore that u can see the piercing of his teeth.

I need some help [advice] on getting food aggression out of Honey. if it's even possible. Until now it's been manageable and i thought she wasn't being like it anymore. But bring Ocea into the picture and it's war again. She's fine with me and people taking her food bowl and messing around with it and touching her when she's eating. But the complete opposite with dogs. She becomes very aggressive and goes into a full blown attack on the other dog thats near or has food she wants. Tonight i didn't get to Bostons food bowl in time to remove it, Ocea slipped out the door and went straight for it. Honey went for it at the same time. And Ocea came…

How should I go about stopping Desna from marking inside the house? It's not a house breaking thing, as he will let me know when he needs out... but for about the last 3 weeks, he's decided he needs to mark the toilet in my bathroom. Desna is 1 year and 3mos. old, I haven't had him clipped yet, and he hasn't done this until my sister and her dog moved back in until she moves off for grad school? Desna had no problems when it was just him and Vince (my other dog) in the house. Could something about Tanner ( my sister's dog) be stressing him out making him feel he has to mark inside? If so, why just the toilet and not, say, Tanner's bed or some other place that would …

Polar is almost one-year old now, one more month to go! I'm pretty excited and can't wait to start training her on a bike. Because bikejoring equipment is hard to come by in China, I made this homemade rig yesterday in anticipation of her training days. Material: 1-meter retired climbing rope, plastic pipe cut to length, 2 3-meter elastic bungee cords, and 1 locking carabiner. The end result is about 3.3 meters long from the bike-end to the locking carabiner. Is this a good length, or should I make it longer/shorter? Here are the photos: And here's Polar, acting as the unwilling model for my rig:

I cannot believe it. My partner and I took the pups for their walk, We went at quarter to 9pm or a little later, i forget. Anyway, Just got back and we let them off in the school (it's fenced from the road but the other side isnt hard to explain but they have to go at lest 500m to get out), and they where amazing, we left their leads attached just encase.. it was dark and they where fabulous just played and followed us like little sheepies! On the way back from the school we decided to go out the front way instead of going the way we came (back gate) and what a fabulous idea that was. I'm not kidding you hard work DOES pay off, i thought …
