I was hoping this was not going to happen.....everything was going so great with them until today. I was feeding them and I should have known...because Whisper was being really greedy today!!! He was gobbling down his food like he has not been feed in days. So he had finished his and Zihna had a handful left. So I hand fed her the last few pieces of puppy kibble and they both stuck their nose in my hand and before I even knew it.....there was no warning...no growl... nothing!!! Whisper just snapped on her! Zihna tried to run and Whisper had her. Zihna was screaming I jumped up pulled Whisper off of her...Zihna ran to the hallway and my daughter came out the room saw Zihna…

Hi guys, I am now offically at melt down Tannar has got worse not improved. I have tried and been persistant with all tips and advise I have been given and have got no where and I mean NO WHERE i had slight improvement with walks, recall and getting her to sleep in the kitchen and thats it i mean slight only. My neighbours have now reported her as she is kicking off now at all hours of the night and her and laika and no longer really getting on. For the past 2 weeks I am constantly having to pull her off a very submissive Laika as she is attacking him and its getting worse today she injured him. How long before Keegans near by???? If you were to hire a dog trainer what questions would you ask him/her before you would let him/her train your dog? After looking for about a month I finally found 2 dog trainers in my area. I heard back from one of them today who specializes in dog training, dog psychology, and rehabilitative services. I am pretty much able to teach her the basics but she does have very selective hearing when it comes to her name and recall especially when we are outside. So I thought a little professional help can't hurt and I will see where it takes us. I would also love to walk them together by myself when the hubby is not here so I want to work with a professional on that …

Its not often Nikita talks to us, but can anyone think of a way I might be able to get her to do it on command? I'm asking because with Steve's job he can be away alot, and Nikita's chat is alot deeper (and sounds meaner lol) than bella growling, so was hoping if I could get her to do it on command than if Steve is away and someone comes to the door late at night, I could get her to do it as a warnign even though I know full well Bella would run the other way, and in Nikita's caseslober someone Obviously neither of them are guard dogs and dont want one.

read this is a dog magazine today n found it really intresting so i thought i would share with you all Wolf experts say pack leaders don't do alpha rolls, only upstart bullies do! No one likes a bully................... If wolf biologists have long believed that 'alpha' concepts are outdated, why are dog trainers and owners still using it? Several Decades ago, biologists thought that a wolf pack wa smade up of unrelated individuals who came together to form a group. In those days they did not have the advanced methods of tracking and studying wild wolves, so simulated this in captive conditions, noting down their findings. …

So, for the past month or so Tuk's been in a head collar for walks to reduce his pulling. I know some dogs don't like them, and they try to get it off. Tuk's done this on a few occasions but for the most part just puts up with it. The last couple of days he's picked up this habit of walking next to me and rubbing his snout against my legs as we're on our walks. Doing so he's tripped me up a few times. Nothing crazy, just enough to disturb my pace. I guess my question is this: is he trying to love on me or is he probably just trying to get the head collar off? Or is he trying to display some kind of dominance?

Ok so... Obi's having this food rush all the time. He gulps the food so fast. I always wait for him to calm down but it doesn't look like it does much. What I do now is I give her a piece of kibble until his meal is done. that way he'll know that he'll need to chew his food. I'm thinking I'll need around three weeks to a month before I can fix it with that method. any of you guys got any other ideas?

I was just reading Silke's post about leash training and thought I'd start a new thread since that one is 7 pages long. How do you know what behavior to ignore and what behavior to correct? The trainer told us to ignore jumping up and reward sitting nicely, for example, but Milla seems to think that to get a treat she must first jump and bark and then sit nicely. Ditto begging for food. Ignore or correct?

I have an eight month old husky called Malakai who is very boisterous and tries to dominate me, we are working on overcoming the issues and I did alot of research before I got him so I was fully prepared for everything he throws at me and I am willing to deal with it however is necessary. The only problem is, myself and my partner have split up which means I am having to move back in with my mum....and she is not prepared for his behaviour! I have tried finding him a new forever home and do have a few people who are interested but im very wary of sending him to a new home and really dont want to be without him, he means everything to me. My mum owns a parrot and whenever …

We entered Shaer and Talon in our local dog show today, more for a laugh than hopes of winning anything. We entered Talon and Shaer in the Working dog class and the rescue dog class and Shaer in the prettiest eyes class. When we entered the ring Talon decided first not to sit down so we guessed we where going to have fun, Shaer sat down and behaved quite well while the judges checked,. The fun started when Shaer and I were asked to trot away and back, as soon as we ran off Talon started howling and then Shaer started howling. I was falling over myself laughing and so were the crowd. After that Talon didn't settle and when Jennifer ran him away from t…

Since I've not been on I thought I'd let you know how Joey is going. We've been to club 3 times all up, wasn't able to go Wednesday night just been and I'm not able to go this Sunday as i am picking up my new horse. I do at home work with him about 3 times a week as i don't want him getting bored. Monday this week we had a break through, He was off lead (other dogs around, people etc) and he heeled, turns, sat with just body commands, stood with hand command. Then i done some stay work and he stayed while i walked in front of him, stood in front then went back to the heel position, asked him to heel again then done some more stay work, but…

Alright so here goes, Blue is about 2 yrs old. I got him from the humane society a little over 3 months ago, he was a stray. They first few times I left the house for more than a couple hours he would eat things, dvds, books, papers, kleenex. so I started to give him a raw hide bone each work day before leaving, this worked almost perfectly, just a couple slip ups. Then his stomach started getting upset, so I had to stop the bones, didn't make a different, no destruction, all was good. \Now let's more on to last week. I washed his bed while I was at work, so he didn't have it. In stead he had the blanket that's usually on my bed when i leave, it's his and he kn…

Ok I am 90% to getting my girlies spayed but I wont to be 100% before I do. I am calling upon all female doggie owners. Did your girlie get snappy befor heat and how long before heat was due did she do this. I know about the pros and cons have read so much but the one thing I am unsure about is my Willow. Over the last few months she has got snappy I have read its there hormones and she has been due to come into heat since July but that was for a six monthly cycle she is now coming onto a 8mth cycle and some signs are there and Akia keeps cleaning her which if it is its going to stop me going to husky camp but no bleeding yet. I keep putting it down…

Zihna loves to run laps around the pool and also around the house every now and then. The thing is that when she does that my chow mix will try and catch her. At first he may try and run after her and grab her. When he catches her she lays down and is submissive. When he don't feel like running after her (he is so out of shape lol) he will just stand there until she come past him and then try to catch her. Most of the time it is ok and no damage done. But sometimes she will squeak when he grabs her. Now I can not really tell if they are playing catch and he accidentally hurts her cause she be running so fast and it's hard for him to catch her her or if he just don't like …

The forestry have decided they don't want any more husky races in Brandon park so the open race of amandas in november has to be moved elsewhere ,there is another shcgb rally in december too so that one will need moving to another part of the forest too, will keep you informed of any updates of the november open race & shcgb race in december. such a shame, bet they still take the folks cash to train in the forest @ brandon though.

This boy was found laying in the middle of a highway around the Nashville, TN area along with another male and a female. The female was dead on the road The two boys were lying next to her and refused to leave until a generous man picked her up and took her into his garage. The boys followed. I agreed to foster them. The one boy was very vocal and continued to beat on the boy I have now. Since we neutered them a week ago, we have separated them and the dominant male has become a gentle soul. His foster has him in the house and he has proven to be housebroke and is using a doggie door and is very well behaved. My boy on the other hand has serious issues. He stopped eatin…

Hi, just thought id post this as i have found it a good idea. If your puppy has an accident in your house, dont use your usual dettol or anticeptic cleaners as apparently most of them contain amonia which just attracts your pup or dog to re offend in that same area. The tip i was given was to use just normal non biological washing powder to clean the soiled area. Hope you find this useful. Chris x
