ok so now saskia has settled in with us (3 months ish) she has began showing dominanace towards some smaller dogs. she hates shitzu's with a passion, and will try to stand over them, and then when they bark she barks, then they snap and she snaps then they bite. so saskia has to stay on the lead if their is the slightest chance of her running into small yapper type dogs its not all small dogs. shes fine with westies, she was quite happy to have a baby yorkie lay next to her. infact the 3 breeds of small dogs she doesnt like are shitzu corgis king charles spaniel she is quite happy with our cats, and has never show…

Went to the vets today to sort out Balto's red itchy spots, got some anti-b's for that and he will be fine. The vet looked at Alaska and asked are they the same age, i said: "yeah their bro and sis and are 1 yrs, why?" She said she looks underweight and asked if they both could be weighed... Balto weighs 24kg Alaska weighs 17kg She lossed about 4kg in the last few weeks, the vet said they souldn't be able to see the pelvic bones and when they yawn you shouldn't be able to see all their ribs, the vet want to get her up to at least 20kg. I have been told to feed a mixture of moist and dry food 3 times a day instead of 2. I told her Balto ea…

We've had Haley for almost 2 weeks now. The first night we met her, we learned real fast that she has a thing for cats - and not a good thing! There were cats at the shelter, and she wanted to get to them, she was screaming and pulling the leash. The dog control person was so embarassed - she didn't expect Haley to act like this, as Haley's previous owners said Haley had lived with a cat. But apparantly she does not like them and would attack them if she caught them. We got Haley home and found similar reactions to other animals - she started to throw a fit at the neighbor's chickens/goats. We stopped that real fast by taking her inside anytime she started…

Hmmmm, the other day I noticed a patch of skin on the outer bit of Kimba's ear was red and a bit inflamed so i've been bathing it a few times a day with warm salt water. Tonight i've noticed it's gotten a bit worse so have coated the area in sudocrem (antiseptic healing cream) now i know this is supposed to be for humans but can i also use this on him? Yeah i know i've already put it on lol but i needed something to create a barrier so it couldn't get any worse and just want to make sure i can put this on again later tonight. It's not hurting him and isn't a cut as such, it looks like a bite or maybe a scratch that i haven't seen and has gotten a …

Well, here's a question for ya'll. I live in an area that gets pretty warm in the summer. During our morning jogs (usually around 65 degrees F, and we run only 4 miles or less), Dakota will scope out cool wet grass and roll around in it (I always let him, he actually has a few favorite lawns picked out). But it surprised me when he did this yesterday during our 5k (and, again, I let him -- stopped and let him roll round and patted him). At first I was worried, but he seemed fine, so after awhile, we continued on our way. After our race, I had a water jug waiting in the shade near the finish, his bowl, and a cooler containing a very large, soft, gel-filled ice p…

Hi, How do you teach a husky to walk on a lead properly without pulling? I can't walk Suka on the lead without there being a little slack on the lead. Its always pulled tight by her and so I find myself walking wonky and its really annoying. Then there are the other times where she will lay down in the street infront of everyone if we don't go in the direction she wants to go. Of course I have to pull the lead but she won't budge, she's like a dead weight and with me pulling on the lead it makes me look like an animal abuser lol I have to take her to the park and let her off the lead which shes pretty good, she comes back but sh…

Just got back from the vets, at about 8 i went to take Alaski for a walk in the park, and there was Brandy (a 6 month old staffy cross) and Luna a 2 or 3 year old Staffy. Immediately they had a little scuff so we broke it up (baby Brandy stayed well out of it) >>> I told Alaska to leave it so she ignored Luna and started to play with Brandy ...BUT Luna was spoiling for a fight and came up beind Alaska very domminantly so then Luna started up again and really went for Alaska ... I dont know at what part it happened but Alaska just switched and had had enough, she went for Luna and it was a big fight, The owner got bitten (by who he knows not) And we got them apart…

Hi, Suka has always been a bit of a fussy eater just eating whenever she wanted but her food bowl was always empty by bed time pretty much everyday. Like any dog she was a pig for junk food and would thieve it when people weren't looking. Over the past couple of weeks her eating habits have become worse, she won't really touch food, and over the past 5 days she's barely eaten a thing. Before I could throw her a whole bowl full of dog meat chunks and she would catch and eat the lot, now after about 5 or so she just throws them back at me. Any of your huskies throw things at you? I've even tried giving her things she usually can't resist lik…

I've had him for 5 months now but he just isn't getting any better training wise. I decided to put him on Wag worker but he didn't agre…

Xavier is 7 weeks old, im aware that all puppys go through a teething stage, Xavier is constantly biting anything he can get his paws on and he has drew blood on the occasion.. have read alot about what to do to stop teething but it doesnt seem to be working.. have bought him alot of chew toys and flavoured puppy bones which he chews for abit then he looses interest.. Also have read alot about what commands to use like tapping him on the nose and saying no, closing his mouth but that didnt really go down well, the vet has told me to just hold his head and look into his eyees and tell him no and to shake a can full…

How old should a dog be before you use a harness for walking? I was just wondering because they grow so fast and I know I'd have to end up buying a bigger one when he's fully grown and stuck with a harness that's too small. Would it be okay to use the collar for now and switch to a harness when he gets older? Speaking of growing when do huskies stop? 1 year?
