First of all, hello everyone! We're adopting one of the sled dogs from the recent rescue in Quebec, Canada (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20091117/dogs_rescued_091117/20091117?hub=Canada). The current rescue agency he is with believes he is either a pure bread husky or possibly a husky/malamute mix due to slightly closer ear positioning, and a slightly longer coat than your average husky. They also said he is about 60lbs and 1-2 years old. We're trying to figure out which crate size would be best for him. I thought I'd put the question to the experts. I've read either a 42" crate or 36" crate. What do you all think? Thanks in ad…

What do you guys think about Siberian Husky Rescues? Or breed specific rescues in general. I feel as if they are far too picky and quick to make judgments. Before i had gotten any of my Huskies, I tried applying to adopt one from the rescue down here in fl. (www.sibrescue.com) I was denied over and over saying there was no way i was capable of adopting from them, even after I had gotten Mickey and became fluent in Husky. And now here I sit sharing my home with the 3 luckiest Huskies I know. I know they want to make sure the dog is in its home forever, but sometimes they take things too far. Even Golden Retriever Rescues told us no (long ago, before…

I go to the beach almost every weekend. As I read they are not to be trusted off lead. I might not be able to go swimming with him. I have two other dogs that I take them all the time. There is a field were I let them roam free. Were I live it is very hot, so I'm guessing he will get exhausted very fast with the heat. The only problem I have, is that if I go to the beach with, what I read that they aren't trust able off lead I don't know what to do to let him run around at the beach or not. The beach would be very good since it's very hot here. My two other dogs they do listen and come when I want them to come back and they never run very far away from me and l…

I am stationed in North Carolina but my familiy is still in Michigan. When I went up there last time, I took my beagle lab mix and drove my pickup truck (its a standard cab Tacoma, little truck.) I put her kennel in the bed and strapped it down as close to the cab as I could with the entrance right up against the sliding rear window. This way she could either ride in the kennel or the cab. Id like to do the same with my husky, but shes a little bigger, it will be winter, and my wife will be coming with me. Will she be okay in the kennel? There shouldnt be much wind at all, but it will be december. Should I put a blanket over the kennel as well as inside? Maybe I can get m…

I know that most huskies and husky mixes arent big barkers. Before i ask about products... I personally dont really mind Chewbacca barking when strangers get too close to the house. As safety precautions go, a barking growling, fierce looking dog is a very good intruder detterant. Not only that but with children in the home this is something i appreciate as someday chewys protective nature could actually give me a head start to protecting my family in the event that some idiot decides they want to try and get past chewy and to the door. However my neighbor has brought it to my attention that when he sometimes gets to barking at night when…

Kino has just started to take the cushion out of his cage randomly when hes not in it. If hes in the cage for the night he just lays on it but now he takes it out and shakes it wildly like hes trying to destroy it. Ill take it from him and tell him No but 20 minutes later hes done it again. We thought maybe he wanted it cleaned... so we washed it... but hes still doing it. Anyone got any ideas?

Does anyone have experience with a dog going up and down a spiral staircase? We have two sets of stairs at our house - the stairs off the deck (outside) and an iron spiral staircase inside. We use the outside stairs all the time, both dogs go up and down no problem. We have 2 entrances to the house, one with the outer stairs (straight staircase that goes to the back yard) and one in the lower half of the house, that we have to use the spiral staircase to get to. The lower half of the house is currently a garage/laundry room, but we plan on making that living space in the future. RIght now we take them outside via the outer stairs. On the inside of the hous…

Does anyone else have a problem with your furbaby eating all your socks? I am fast running out of them as Nukka seems to think they are going to kill us all in our sleep and therefore must all be shredded into small bits... She will even go as far as to go fishing through the laudrey hamper when I've burried them right to the bottom to get and exterminate them all, I've had to move the laundry hamper from its usual place by the washer into the livingroom to stop this or I'm going to be getting an awfull lot of blisters going without socks on!! Is this just my mad girl or are there other evil socks that need destroying out there?

Well, after Dakota and I had to stop during his 5K and seek out water (the race was supposed to have it at the halfway point but didn't), I started looking for some portable water options that are easy to take running. Normally when we hike, I have a backback and a folding bowl for him, but that's not really practical when running races. After doing a web search and finding all sorts of different nifty bottles (some even had little slide-out bowls that fill), I settled on the Pet Top, which is just a little plastic roller ball that turns ANY people water bottle into a dog sippy cup (sorta like a large-scale hampster cage waterer). I just used it during a 5K on …

Does your husky twirl round in circles before deciding on where's best to erm...how can i put this politely - poo? I normally walk my boys on my own as I like the peace and quiet but with it getting darker earlier Marc has started coming with me and it baffled him that I knew Kimba was going to poop before he'd actually done it - i never really thought about it till after but there's just those signs that you know it's coming and hope and pray it's not a squirty one :scared:

While playing with Sky I've recently discovered that while harassing her she begins to growl or something. she gets her mouth on my hand or arm but never bites (maybe a little bit of pressure but never anything painful). After a while of me messing with her she'll quickly get up and kind of run away. I'm assuming we're playing until she runs off and that the grownling/talking is just part of the play. I'm not terribly experienced with dog play but wanted to ask here. Is this just play and run away or am I ticking her off and she's growling at me? _ph6QLTsZnY

Soz i meant: UKC or AKC << not ACK...duuhhhh lol Huskies are soo different all over, i was wondering to get a little background history, and why sibes are so different. Today i saw a Husky that was red and white, has yellow/almond eyes and on his back he had darker streaks of red and he actually looked very much like Sara's Kimba (very cute) >> This sibe was called Mocha and he was lovely, he was rather stocky, not too long in body, but not fat and his tail touched his back. Is this to standard? Are sibes tail's now allowed to touch their backs? Im guessing it is acceptable as he was KC. But... The breed standard for Amer…

ok micha is smelly, and yes i could bath her, but she goes swimming in the canal every day, and then i would have to bathe her again, and she hates having a bath. she loves swimming, so i dont want to stop her swimming. does anyone know of a home remedy or similar i can put on her coat that will reduce the odour. if you are on a room with her it is so obvious, saskia doesnt smell, but then she only goes in up to her belly and not completeley in like micha.

Was just curious as to see if anyone else has rules with regards to the dogs in your house? Reason I'm asking is it drives me up the wall when Kimba and Kaiser come in the house full of mud and that mud is transfered to our leather suite. Was thinking of trying to make it a rule that they dont go on them and train them as such, however I've just kinda been putting up with it. The only one we have that we always stick to is that they dont go upstairs. So what rules you guys have?

Im thinking of registering Kino with the AKC but i really dont know what the different kinds of markings are. They list: Black Points, Piebald, and Pinto. Could you tell me what type my little one is and explain what the others are.
