Hey all, If you are reading this post, you are either intrigued or you are in the same position my partner and I, fearing our dog was pregnant and what would we do? Ok... let’s wind back to the start. Signs your dog is definitely pregnant (from approx 4 weeks before labour all will be present) Look from the top down on your dog, is she misshapen? She will look filled in her body before her back legs. A noticeable sign is her losing fur on her underside/belly and growing teats. Her attitude may change from normal. She may be either very clingy or want to be alone.[ She may start having trouble with the…

I thought I would start a little thread on cleaning up after inside accidents as there seems to be a few people having some issues of late I have been very lucky with Ronin and his toilet training, but my advice comes from experience with my previous dog that had daily accidents towards the end of her 14+ years. One of the big problems with inside peeing, especially on carpet is that urine contains ammonia which as we all know stinks to high heaven. Many cleaning products contain ammonia so our dogs can smell even the smallest amount and think "hey great, it must be okay to pee in an area that already smells of pee, woo-hoo!" The other problem is that if w…

I think there needs to be a sticky on crate training huskies. It comes up a lot and it DOES present problems to new owners unique to crating other dogs. If you've posted on the subject in the past explaining your experiences and ideas, please search it out and copy and paste it here. Or if you've never posted on the subject but have experience, please share. It won't read like normal post, but rather just a wealth of experienced husky owners tips and ideas. If enough good information on the subject gets added to this thread, perhaps it will be worth making a sticky.

OK, bear with me folks. A little introduction here. I picked up my Sibes at a local shelter. Found the female, debated it for a week, pulled the trigger. The day I picked her up, ended up deciding to get the male. I did not do proper research ahead of time, and found out later that I wasn't properly prepared. In my quest for information and tips, I found this site. It has been a life saver! Now...what I'd like to do with this thread is help out all the other people that are new to Sibes, or are looking into Sibes. So please, if you have some tips, a heads up on what to expect, or something people should plan for, please post them up! I'll do …

Thought this would be helpful to new owners to read about other owners first experience (i.e. First night home, first walk, first vet visit, etc etc) and how they handled it and what they would recommend to a new owner. Will list here different first time experiences and you can either copy and paste all the titles and write about them all or choose to do a few. Choosing your first dog what happened what did you do what would you advise now more experienced Preparing your home what happened what did you do what would you advise now more experienced First 24 hours home what happened what di…

I have a 9 month old purebred husky that still has floppy ears. I was wondering if anyone else had/has or know of anyone that had a husky with floppy ears? I have AKC papers saying he's purebred. I saw both of his parents and they're both purebreds with erect ears. I asked my veterinarian about his ears and she said it's up to dog if they want to erect their ears or not so I shouldn't worry to much about it. But.. I can't help but be curious about his ears?!

My 18 year old son and I took Cai, Luka blue and Toby for a walk yesterday afternoon and we were walking home when a man and his staffy cross came up behind us. He was telling his dog to ‘watch em watch em’ so i told my son to walk faster and I was steering Cai and Luka blue towards the wall away from the man, he overtook us and his dog lunged for Luka, the man made no attempt to pull his dog back, Luka and Cai lunged for the dog and a fight began, the man let go of his dogs lead and my son and I were trying to pull ours away and a woman was stood in a doorway opposite and told us to come in, she said ‘he wants a dog fight’. We managed to get into the building, there was …

Kind of a random question, I know. I am merely curious to the average age people began to notice the "puppy" begin to run out of their husky(ies). I know they are high energy dogs for life, and spaying/neutering could play a role, but that's my generic question of curiosity.

hey guys, i got spirit spayed about a 2weeks ago. the vet had to shave her belly fur away for this procedure to happen. her healing's process has been good so far, stitches are out but with mild irritation to her stitches so i've placed antibotic cream on her belly for a couple days and it's been recovering pretty well. i'm just wondering how long did it take your husky's tummy fur to grow back?? I've been looking on the internet that it might take years for her fur to grow back and even when it does grow back it wouldn't be the same since winter is coming soon for us...i'm worried that she'll get cold/sick or something along those lines. Is there anything to …

My 5 month old puppy 'Bear' is a rather odd colour. I've been googling images for the last 2 months and have so far come up with 'dirty faced agouti' or 'tri coloured'. We rescued her when she was 12 weeks old, when my husband was driving home from work and the van in front of him threw her out! Battersea checked her out and said she was a husky and definately NOT a German Shephard cross. Her undercoat is a thick wooly cream colour. Her guard hairs are a mixture of black/cream and cream/black/cream. Her underneath is entirely black and white patterned. Hope this helps, any info shared would be greatly appreciated! Thanks x

Hello, I have my puppy here Milo who will be 8 weeks in two days. (I don't want to hear about he is too young before 8 weeks thing, I know, thank you:)) He weight about 7 pounds now. Is this the average range for a puppy who is about 8 weeks? I think by this friday he will already be 8 pounds or 7 pounds and a half! He is growing at SUPER rate ! Thank you And do you have any advices for puppy who bite socks and shoes other than ignoring him? Or is ignoring his behavior the best thing so he won't do it again? Thank you And what is your favorite technique for when your puppy bites?

Raw Paw Pad? 1 2

So - Suka somehow hurt his paw pad. My brother noticed he was licking it a lot (for minutes straight) so I went to investigate. I had to leave for an appointment, unfortunately, so I stuck a cone on him and off I went. When I came back, it seems slightly worse than before. It is more red, looks a little swollen, and it hurts him to touch it. There is no blood; but it is raw. When I separate the toes, it is raw inbetween them. I couldn't get a picture of that, though, cause he kept on pulling away. I'm at a loss on what to do - thought about bandaging it...but it is on his paw pad so I'm not sure how effective that'll be. Also thought about just bring…

My 10 month old husky is losing fur & quick. I can pull clumps of hair out so I was just wondering if it's normal for him to be losing fur like that. I do live in Hawaii & I'm assuming that the weather has something to do with why he's shedding so much. Please help....Thanks!

I have been looking at all these pics and I have seen fluffy huskies and not so fluffy huskies. Are some just not as fluffy as others? Or are they all usually fluffy and you guys are getting them groomed? Zihna is not so fluffy although I would like her to be. Me likes fluffy . Could it be that she still gets fluffier as she gets older? Thank you.

I'm curious to know around what age their mask would start to fade if they do at all? Panda has black around his eyes, would that all fade away? Do any of you have a husky that has kept those dark circles around the eyes when full grown? Curious as to this as i met an owner today who she said her husky used to look just like Panda and now theres completely no black at all around the eyes. Wouldn't mind before and after pictures too!!!!

When we first got Fenrir he had blue eyes, they've now changed to a greeny sort of colour, in some lights they're more green and in others more blue. I've never come across a husky with green eyes before. Is it possible for huskies to have green eyes or are his eyes likely to carry on changing colour? Both his parents had blue eyes as did all his litter mates.

Hello all, This is my first post on this site. I'm so happy to have found it! We just purchased our first dog ever; he is a 7 year old Siberian Husky named Phil. Phil is a retired championship and stud dog. We love him so much! He gets lots of attention at home and is crate trained. The breeder he is from says that he is a very mellow guy which we find is very true! One thing I am wondering about is that Phil seems extremely lazy!! Right now he is stretched out on the rug napping. When he looks at me, his eyes are normal for a minute or two, and then his eyes start closing more and more with each blink. Phil is very alert on walks but if …

So how many of you let your husky and other dogs sleep with you? I have read that it is a very bad idea to let you husky sleep in the bed with you, something about alpha status. We have had Aurora for about 2 months and all but about 2 weeks of that she has slept with us. She is completely house trained but every now and then she will still need to go out at night. She will nudge either my husband or I to take her out then she will come right in a lay back down and go right to sleep. We also let our 2 schnauzers sleep with us. Will there really be a dominance problem later on by letting her sleep with us. We do not allow any of our animals on the furniture unless we invit…

I have an almost 10 weeks old female husky, I'm currently using a harness my mother got me and I have no idea what size it is but I don't think it will last very much longer. Petco is having a sale and I want to take advantage of it so I've decided to order her a new collar, harness, and leash. Right now the collar I've decided to go with is Medium; Adjustable From 13"-16" Length, I assume that if its a little big on her as I expect it to be? that I can just poke a hole in it for her size. Harness wise I'd like to go with Small; 5/8" Width; 16"-26" Girth. Would this be too small? I don't want to buy something that in just a few weeks she could grow out of, I h…
