Boys held over 'shocking' attack Local resident Lisa Meehan describes the injuries to the younger victim Police are questioning two children after an attack that left one boy with life-threatening injuries and another "cut from head to toe". Just sat here daydreaming (only having a 3 minute break from the grind) about far off places etc etc and noticed Austinville lived in Iowa. What a good idea to do a house swap with someone who owns a dog very similar to your own. You get to have a break without having to put your dog into a kennel and both houseowners can be reasonably sure that their dog will get looked after by someone who understands the breed. Silly idea really but I bet Austinville and a couple of others will be thinking"Oh my God, why would I want to go to..........." if they read this.

Is it wrong to laugh at chubsters? This is the question posed on the radio by BBC 5 Live this week about the four-strong Chawner family of Blackburn, who have a combined weight of 83 stone. They first came to public attention when daughter Emma (19 years/17 stone) appeared in a watch-through-your-fingers audition on The X Factor, wearing what appeared to be a wedding dress and butchering (if thats even possible with such a song) Celine Dions My Heart Will Go On. The family then enjoyed some minor notoriety when some of the less sympathetic sections of the press cottoned on to the fact that the Chawners dont work and get around 22,000 a year in ben…

Our Government has done it again: the latest weapon in The War On Terror is monitoring Facebook. Facebook © PA Photos 2009 You might well ask which terrorist organisation is writing, The Spear Of Allah is planning to blow up Paddington on its Facebook wall, or if keeping a watchful eye on social network drivel is an effective use of security forces time. Or you might if you werent in Government, at least. Even if and its a big if there was much to gain from analysing chatter on social networking sites, would it be worth the huge cost and time involved? The Government says it will not monitor content, but will just keep data ab…

You gotta love a publicly funded organisation. A brilliant piece of research has emerged from the Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services. They have discovered that doner kebabs are unhealthy. Kebab © Andrew Drysdale/Rex Those crazy kids at the Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services! Some of the finest minds in Britain. Anyway, officers from 76 councils sampled no fewer than 494 Phil Babbs, the greedy pigs, and found that the average doner contains 1,000 calories. They also and you may find this hard to believe contained like a ton of salt and saturated fat. The kebabs, not the health inspectors. …

Like idiot father, like idiot son: it emerges that Prince Charles calls his polo pal Kolin Dhillon Sooty. Charles-blog-200-pa-jan14 Graham Smith, of anti-monarchy organisation Republic, said this shows that the Royal Family are not a symbol of unity, theyre quite divisive. People are saying they are not racist but on the evidence in the public domain I think thats to the contrary. Hes right: the evidence in the public domain is that they are racist. Both father and son think its okay to refer to their friends and co-workers by racist nicknames. Thats racist, that is. People will say: At my job, everyone calls [the Indian/Nigerian/Japanese …

A 106-year-old Kent woman has become the oldest person to complete a lap at Brands Hatch. Dulcibella King-Hall notched up a top speed of 108mph in a BMW M3 to celebrate her upcoming 107th birthday. Miss King-Hall, of Tunbridge Wells, declared: "It could have been faster", as she was helped back into her wheelchair after completing four laps as a passenger. Asked why she loved the thrill of speed, she replied: "Why shouldn't I? Don't you like it? I like the feeling of the vehicle going vroom." Born in Devon in 1902, Miss King-Hall has loved cars since she tested vehicles commandeered from civilian use during the Secon…

Thats just one of the most ridiculous complaints tour operators have received from irate British holidaymakers in recent years. Telegraph Travel has complied a list of complaints using research by The Association for British Travel Agents (Abta) and Thomas Cook. They include one from a tourist at a top African game lodge, who spotted a visibly aroused elephant and complained that the sight of this rampant beast ruined his honeymoon by making him feel inadequate. One Briton grumbled that the sand at the beach was too white; one was outraged when a 3.50 pair of Ray Ban sunglasses proved to be fake; and yet another was quick to …

A father who killed his one-month-old son because he was jealous of the attention he had from his mother has been jailed for life. In March 2008, disc jockey Brian Saunders, 31, inflicted horrific injuries on baby Rilee, similar to those sustained in a car crash, by violently shaking and smashing him against a hard surface. Saunders was ordered to spend a minimum of 18 years in jail after being found guilty by a jury at Exeter Crown Court. He had denied the charges. When Rilee was taken to hospital, doctors found three groups of injuries: the fatal injury of the fractured skull, brain damage caused by shaking, and a fractured knee, caused…

Police blunders allowed a 44-year-old chef known as the 'Doorstep Stalker' to carry out a string of sexual attacks on women. The Metropolitan Police have apologised and an independent investigation is under way after it emerged Kirk Reid, who is also a children's football coach, was not arrested until four years after he was made a suspect. Fitness freak Reid - the brother of a police officer - has been found guilty of attacking 25 women over a 12-year period, including raping a woman he grabbed on the street in March 2002. He pounced on his victims as they made their way home from nights out in the Balham, Clapham and Tooting areas of so…

as mentioned in another thread (main chat) though I would put it in here. From: Times Online The RSPCA cut its links with Crufts yesterday as a leading charity warned the organisers of the dog show that they must act to prevent the breeding of deformed and disabled animals. The BBC, which has broadcast the show for 40 years, is also thought to be on the verge of deciding whether to continue its coverage. The sponsors of the show await its decision. The RSPCA's decision to relinquish its stand at Crufts in March next year follows a BBC documentary, broadcast last month, that highlighted the genetic side-effects of intensive bre…
