Judge orders US to keep protecting 'endangered' wolves The grey wolf was nearly hunted to extinction in the US by the 1930s A federal judge has ordered the US to put Rocky Mountain grey wolves back on a list of protected endangered species. Encouraged by the recovery of the once nearly-extinct wolf, the US last year moved to allow wolf hunts in two states while protecting them in a third. But a judge ruled the law did not permit the US to protect part of a species population while allowing hunting of the rest. Despite the ruling, Idaho said it would seek federal approval for a wolf hunt. The decision puts wolves in the sta…

The website for Lapland New Forest at Matchams Leisure Park near Ringwood on the Hampshire-Dorset border, showed pictures of snowy scenes and promised real log cabins, husky dogs and other animals, as well as a "bustling" Christmas market. But some visitors claimed they experienced "disorganised chaos" and complained that once they paid 25 to get inside the park, it was "tacky" with "real log cabins" actually garden sheds and the nativity scene a billboard poster that could only been seen across an expanse of mud. An ice rink was also closed for repairs while the "magical tunnel of light" turned out to be a few lights hung up on a line of trees. …

Wales has become the first country in the UK to publish official guidance to help animal owners take care of their dogs, cats, horses and donkeys. The Welsh Assembly Government's code of practices inform people of their responsibilities as animal owners. Cat owners, for instance, are told that their pets need to eat meat and cannot be turned into vegetarians. Horse owners are warned to keep mares and stallions separate to "prevent aggression and amorous behaviour". Recent RSPCA figures have shown an increase in the number of cruelty investigations in recent years. In 2007 the organisation recorded just under 140,000 i…

TORONTO  As if bedbugs aren't icky enough in their own right, researchers now wonder if the pesky little critters might also be a means of spreading so-called superbug infections. Researchers discovered that a sample of the blood-sucking insects taken from three patients who live in Vancouver's gritty Downtown Eastside were carrying two types of drug-resistant bacteria. Co-investigator Dr. Marc Romney, a medical microbiologist at nearby St. Paul's Hospital, said five bedbugs plucked from the patients or their belongings were carrying MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) or VRE (vancomycin-resistant enterococci). Dubbed superbugs, the bacteri…

I'm sure most have read about "Big Ben" being renamed the Elizabeth Tower. Now I have no real thoughts on it being renamed but I was always taught (even when I lived in England) that the Great Bell is actually nicknamed Big Ben and the clock tower it is in is just called Clock Tower. Is this true? I'm so confused now lol! Here is an article I found about the renaming.... BBC News - MPs back bid to rename Big Ben tower after Queen
